national or international competi-
tions. Baumann was a double gold -
medalist in swimming at the 1984

Province's outstanding Amateur
Athlete of the Year.
.Ontario's achievements in amateur
sports in 1984 were outstanding. On-
tario athletes comprised more than 50
percent of Canada's Winter and Sum-
mer Olympics Games teams. The
province's sport deve. Ipment system
continues to produce outstanding
athletes and is now geared towards
the 1988 Winter and Summer Olympic
Games in Calgary, Alberta and Seoul,
South Korea with a "Best Ever On-
tario" program of athlete
development.
In addition to the athletes' ac-
complishment awards, 25 amateur
sport volunteers and 25 Ontario cor-
porations will be recognized at the din-
ner. The 25 volunteers will receive the
Special Achievement Award, sym-
bolic of dedicated involvement in
their respective sport. The corpora-
tions selected will receive the pro-
vince's Corporate Sector Citation -
marking the 6th year the award has
been presented to corporations which
provide both money and equipment to
amateur sport.
With the support of the corporate
sector, Mr. Bennett said the province
has been able to provide a com-
prehensive assistance package to all
athletes across the province and add-
ed "this type of effort will ensure that
Ontario athletes will continue to he a
major force not only in Canada but
around the world".
