Mohawks lose in bid for WOAA title
The Exeter Mohawks were literal-
ly and figuratively sent "to the
showers.' -as they dropped a 4-2 deci-
sion 10 Woodford in the sixth game of
their WOAA grand championship at
the rec centre.- Friday.
Due to mechanical failure in the
compressors. the game was played on
sott and wet ice that gave players a
shower every time they were sent
sprawling.
A season high crowd oI over 1.11410
fans added to the heat in the building
and slowed the play even more as the
Mohawks lost the championship
series be a 4-2 margin in games.
F'riday's game was a bonus for
local fans. Few expected the
Mohawks to force the sixth game as
they trailed Woodford 3-1 when they
travelled to Owen Sount on Tuesday.
Iloticever. the Tribe scored a ;-:1 upset
win in that contest to extend the
series.
The poor ice conditions on Friday
appeared to affect the Tribe a bit
more than their opponents. due in
part to an age difference that had
some 01 the senior team Members
suffering from a lack of steam to
mount an offensive threat in the final
periost.
'.Manager Doc Campbell said that
under different circumstances. the
ice conditions would have proinpted
a cancellation of the game. But with
the rec centre filled with fans and con-
: idering the travel time involved by
the visitors, it was decided the game
had to go on.
