Sloppy ice hurts play Mohawks lose in bid for WOAA title The Exeter Mohawks were literal- ly and figuratively sent "to the showers.' -as they dropped a 4-2 deci- sion 10 Woodford in the sixth game of their WOAA grand championship at the rec centre.- Friday. Due to mechanical failure in the compressors. the game was played on sott and wet ice that gave players a shower every time they were sent sprawling. A season high crowd oI over 1.11410 fans added to the heat in the building and slowed the play even more as the Mohawks lost the championship series be a 4-2 margin in games. F'riday's game was a bonus for local fans. Few expected the Mohawks to force the sixth game as they trailed Woodford 3-1 when they travelled to Owen Sount on Tuesday. The poor ice conditions on Friday appeared to affect the Tribe a bit more than their opponents. due in part to an age difference that had some 01 the senior team Members suffering from a lack of steam to mount an offensive threat in the final periost. Attila Molnar and Glenn Schaump scored three times each for the winners. high & Dry defeated the %Voices 8-1 in their other round-robin series. while the Wolves battled Protective Plastics 10 a 7-7 draw Ralph Wells had three goals for High & Dry in their win. while ,John O'Neil added a pair and singles came from Pete Glover. Dave Smith and Rich !,other in the draw against the Wolves. Protective Plastics got three goals from Schaurnp. two from Dean Densmore and singles from Russ Hayter and Attila Molnar. Woodford tied the game after five minutes of play in the third and the play see -sawed throughout the balance of the period before Dave Jackson popped the winner on a play withJamie Caldwell with just under two minutes to go.
