to find quality time to share about the
changes the child will shortly ex-
perience. The parent should plan
beforehand what he will say about
physical development and about the
emergence of sexual urges and how
the child can cope with them. We
should deal also with the pressure
towards conformity with his peer
group during the teen years, and help
him foresee the sport of moral choices
he will have to make. He should be
given some foresight also about the
common strain on parent-child rela-
tionships as the growing -up process
continues, and be assured of the
parents' unchanging love throughout.
Small group discussion over coffee
followed the film, giving those present
opportunity to share valuable insights
on the subject of the evening.
The last two films deal with the
marriage relationship under the title
"What Wives Wish Husbands Knew
about Woriien". On April 9, the sub -
topic is "TheLonely Housewife", and
on April 16, "Money, Sex, Children".
All are invited to attend these last two
films of the series.
GOOD NEWS!
There is good news for the Village
of Lucan and especialfv for those who
were worried about basement
flooding.
Council has resolved to proceed
with an upgrading of the sewage
system for relief of the basement
flooding at an cost estimated by the
M.M. Dillon. consulting engineers, at
$850.000.
This resoluti?n rounds up the deci-
sion to upgrade the existing pumping
station by installing two additional
lagoon cells and aeration and alum
feeding equipment at an estimated
cost of $I.130,(x10, passed by council in
October 1984.
The Ontario Ministry of the En-
vironment is expected to provide a
grant covering approximately 78 per-
cent of the eligible capital cost for
both projects
The Ministry is considering starting
the project with the upgrading of the
pumping station, construction of two
new lagoons and installation of the
alum equipment. Basement flooding
relief and the expansion of the system
will follow as they become necessary
after the initial upgrading.
Following acceptance of the pro-
ject. the Ministry- is now preparing a
complete description of the projects
needed for the issuance of a (condi-
tional I Certificate of Approval and is
assembling the date required for a
Consolidated Approval Hearing on the
total program.

Question pubik share of drain cost
The Hardy drainage report was the 1
chief order of business at Lucan coun-
cil meeting on Tuesday night.
The second submission of the
engineer's report was discussed, and
the new cost estimate announced. The
first submission called for a residen-
tial drain at the cost of $6,400. The new
submission calls for an agricultural
drain at the cost of $3,800.
The session was intended to give
people a chance to add or subtract
their names from the petition to do the
drain.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hodgins and Jack
Porter attended the drainage session
to discuss their concerns regarding
the cleaning of culverts and place-
ment of tiles.
A court of revision meeting has yet
to be scheduled. The appeal period is .
within 10 days of the court of revision.
There were some concerns raised
by council regarding the public share
of the drainage bill. Councillor Larry
Hotsqn wondered, "How come the
cost of the drain dropped almost 50
per cent and our portion only dropped
PLAN FASHION SHOW
The Lucan Figure Skating Club is
holding their first annual fashion
show, "The Signs of Spring" on Sun-
day afternoon, April 14 in the Lucan
main hall at 2 p.m.
Angela Armitt will commentate on
fashions supplied by Little People,
Looking Good and Gerrard's
(Exeter).
There will be musical entertain-
ment, refreshments and door prizes.
An admission fee will be charged.
25 per cent?'' The engineer feels that
the arena is responsible for 47.3 per
cent of the water runoff, and that the
community centre is the largest
single water -problem. -
There was some questioning of the
water contributions by the bank and
the tavern. Reeve Steeper pointed out
that "we're prefectly within our
rights asking for an acreage
assessment."
Councillor Hotson said he didn't
want to hold up the drain for the sake
of a $1,000 adjustment.
1t was decided not to ask for further
justification at this time. The com-
munity centre will decide themselves
if they wish to question the assess-
ment. First and second readings of
the provisional bylaw for the Hardy
drain were given.
Other orders of business included a
report from Harry Wraith and Doug
Johnston regarding a drainage and
construction meeting, hosted by
Spriet and Associates Engineering in
London, that they attended recently.
Wraith said, "I got something out of
it, -and it was one of the better
meetings".
Wraith and Johnston will be atten-
ding another meeting on April 10 in
Amhcrstburg, the 'Western Ontario
Waterworks Conference. There is a
$13 registration fee for the
conference.
The Hearing Awareness Society
wanted a hearing awareness month
declared. This was done. The Socie-
ty also wanted a grant. This was pass-
ed to the finance committee for fur-
ther consideration.
It was decided to give a Lucan flag
to the Optimist Club of Lucan, as re-
quested by the club.
A letter was received frori3 the
Chatham Flood Victims association
requesting a donation This was also
deferred to the finance committee.
The Lucan Baseball Association
received permission to use the Lucan
crest on their umpire shirts,
The Ministry of Transportation and
Communications has been asked for
supplementary subsidy money for the
Butler Street culvert, which is part of
the Benn drainage works.
Doug Johnston was given authori-
ty to buy a pump.
The surcharge for water which has
been waived since 1980 for the Lucan
Community Centre was discussed.
The centre is exempted from the sur-
charge on 300,000 gallons of water per
year, because that is the amount that
goes into the pool, instead of for
sewage. It means that $35 is sub-
tracted from the Centre water bill
every two months. It was decided to
monitor the situation until September
and see what happens.
