East Wi l l lams opposes poles Over 130 residents of East Williams Township met at the Beechwood Hall, April 1, to express their concern about Ontario Hydro's proposal to build a 500,000 volt line through the Township. The main issue centered around Hydro's disregard to agriculture by proposing the Bruce to London line through some of the best farm land in Ontario. Overwhelming support was given to the establishment of a committee whose purpose is to act as liaison bet- ween Township residents and a Cen- tral Action Committee. Gerald Rose is the chairman of this committee while Ken McGregor, a member of Foodland Hydro Commit- tee was chosen as a resource person. Other members of this committee are Glen Marshman, John R. Stewart and Peter Twynstra. Personal commitment was pledged in terms of financial support and. volunteer requirements. Over $5,000.00 have already been raised in East Williams Township to establish a warchest to be used as a fund to finance professional efforts to fight the present proposal. • Volunteers will contact all affected residents in the Township for support. It was expressed at the meeting that Townships are organizing on a small basis right from Douglas Point to London. Further anti proposed route sup- port was expressed by East Williams Township Council, this would involve mailing, photo -copying and financial aid if and when required. If East WilliamsTownship is an in- dication of fighting the proposed hydro line, a very effective force is being built, which without doubt will influence the final outcome. • • Seniors enjoy entertainment Exeter Senior Citizens held their meeting at the Legion Hall Tuesday evening with a good attendance and with president Ruby Beaver presiding.
