PLAN SESSION
"The worst of the economic adjust-
ment in agriculture is yet to come".
says 'Porn Oegema, president of the
Christian Fanner Federation of On-
tario. The CFFO have drafted a
detailed proposal that, if adopted,
would allow farmers to apply to a
special tribunal for debt 'set-aside' for
up to three years. "We have conclud-
ed that debt -set aside is the best
targetted assistance for those who
need more time to adjust to new
economic realities, he' says.
The Ontario Federation of
Agriculture has developed the 'Agri -
bond' concept to make credit
available to farmers at lower than
market rates. This proposal would not
be a direct cost to governmentit
would allow a lender tax concessions
on the interest he would receive thus
allowing him to lend money at less
than market rates.
On April 4 at 8:30 the Huron Coun-
ty Federation of Agriculture is spon-
soring a meeting at Iiolmesville
Public School where Bill Jongejan,
vice-president of the CFFO, will take
about debt set-aside, and Jack Wilkin-
son vice-president of OFA will discuss
Agri -bonds.
