Times -Advocate, April 3, 1985 Poge"S
Exeter area objective is $21,700
Distrkt cancer canvass underway
The Exeter branch of the Canadian
Cancer Society hopes to raise $21,700
this month. The 1985 campaign chair-
man for Exeter, Norm Martin says
more canvasseres for the door-to-door
campaign are still needed.The fund-
raising campaign starts April 1, and
canvassing kits are now being
distributed to volunteers.
The Huron County unit of the Cana-
dian Cancer Society hopes to raise
$90,000 this year. Last year was a
good one for the fundraisers: they ex-
ceeded their $80,000 objective by more
than $13,000..
Individual branches within the
county also have fundraising goals.'
Clinton is expected to raise $17,500
this year, Goderich $22,800, Seaforth
$8,300 and Wingham $19,700.
As well as the door-to-door canvass-
ing by area volunteers there will be
a bike-a-thon run by the Lioness club
and daffodil blooms will be sold by
members of the Bela Sigma Phi
'Sorority. There won't be a fashion
show fundraiser this year.
There are three chapters of Beta
Sigma Phi in Exeter, and members
from all three will be selling the daf-
fodils. Verla Russell is in charge of
the daffodil sales in Exeter this year.
her first year organising the sale.
Daffodil day will be held this year on
Friday, April 12.
The Exeter sorority has 12,000
blooms to sell this year. The blooms
sell at $2 for a bunch of 10. -
A total of 55,000 daffodil blooms will
be sold throughout the county by
various service clubs beginning in
April. Goderich will have 17,000
blooms to sell, Clinton 15,000,
Wingham 7,000 and Seaforth 4,000. In
Goderich, the Lioness club will be
selling daffodil blooms at the Sun -
coast Mall. on April 12 and 13.
Goderich, Clinton and Exeter will
be holding bike-a-thons during April.
Exeter's bike-a-thon will be held on
May 26. Lioness Anne Prout is in
charge of the bike-a-thon.
Last year the Lioness bike-a-thon
raised over $2,000. However, there
were only about 20 riders, compared
to 50 or 60 in previous years. This year
the Lionesses are changing the for-
mat, hoping to encourage more
riders. 1l will be a family bike-a-thon,
with the whole family invited to join
in. Children must be accompanied by
a parent. Families can have in-
dividual sponsorships or can be spon-
sored as a group.
