Mary's Musings
Everyone asks the same questions
over and over again, when you have
a new baby. Now you might think that
we would get tired of giving the same
answers time and time again, but I
think we're like most new parents -
we don't mind talking about our baby
at all.
The first and foremost questionask-
ed by everybody is "Who does she
look like?" But before you can offer
an explanation, the person asking the
question usually gives his or her
opinion.
Now, 1 must admit that when
Chelsey was first born. both Victor
and I studied her tiny Pace for some
signs of resemblance to either of us.
We even got nut our baby pictures to
make comparisons and when nothing
concrete turned up there. we resorted
to digging up baby pictures of our
parents. Still nothing firm, While her
chubby cheeks may be similar to
mine, her dark eyes are more like
Victor's. And even so, she does not
look just the same as either of us.
Finally we decided she was unique -
and now when someone asks who she

looks like, we shrug and suggest that
she is really just herself.
Still, everyone offers opinions on
who she is like. Some people are con-
vinced that she looks just like her
Mom, while others are equally ada-
mant that she's just like her Dad.
There is no consensus, and the votes
for each parent are running about
equal - which only serves to convince
us that she looks like neither parent.
Once people make up their minds
as to who she resembles, they move
on to question two: "is she good?"
Now. I think that there isn't a parent
alive who would answer no to that
question. Even the mother of the most
colicky baby is not going to admit that
her baby is "Bad". So, the answer to
question two is much simpler than
question one - it is always an une-
quivocal, unconditional yes.
However. sometimes you are
thrown a curve hall - question two
becomes a two part question. Once
you state that yes, your baby is a good
baby, the person asking the questions
wants to know "Does she sleep
through the night?"
Well, the second part of question
two sometimes requires some
qualifications.If, by sleeping through
the night you mean can she sleep for
eight or nine or ten hours without a
feeding. the answer is yes. it's just
that our ('helsey used to prefer her
nights to run from 4:00 a.m. until
noon. Did you know that you can
watch "Eight is Enough" re -runs on
Channel Four from 3:00 to 4:00 a.m.?
But we kept on rudely awakening
her early in the morning until she
finally learned to sleep from 10:00
p.m. to 8:30 a.m. although if allowed
to she will slip back to her nighthawk
tendencies.
Once her looks have been assessed,
her disposition decided on and her
sleeping habits examined, we move
on to more personal questions: Does
she like her bath? Well. Chelsey
hasn't yet graduated to the bath tub.
nor has she tried out our hot tub. so
we're still not sure what she thinks of
her bath - we'll lel you know when she
decides.
Apparently. some people ask if the
baby has a good appetite. We've
never been asked that question. I
guess once glimpse of her chubby
cheeks tells anyone that her Similac
agrees with her

What should have been the final
match to advance to the final round,
turned out in a 2-2 tie game. S. Des-
jardine notched a powerplay marker,
followed by a two goal lead, notched
by Jason Desjardine from Eagleson
and captain Darryl Timmermans.
Strathroy's John Rombouts scored
twice in the third period from Craig
Campbell to tie. Game four goes in
Strathroy Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
