Pick committee to study parking
Grand Bend council has approved
a suggestion from the planning ad-
visory committee to appoint a special
parking committee.
This special sub -group of planners
propose to study traffic problems in
the resort and bring their report to the
planning meeting on April 16. The
new sub -committee will consist of
three members. Ed Iskauskas
volunteered to be a member.
Many suggestions were made to
ease parking problems, such as
meters. increase the hours of opera-
tion on the beach lot, or billing
businesses on Main Street (bulk of
traffic ( to build a parking fund. As a
result of the study done in 1980, two
one-way streets are now successful.
One suggestion was to buy lots to
supply extra space, rather than the
expense of signs. It was suggested by
William Tye, who was present at the
meeting, that the picnic area east of
the municipal building. known as
Dead Tree Park, which is not used, be
transformed into a parking lot.
It was moved by Harold•Green and
seconded by Bob Sharen that the GB
-Planning Advisory elect Ed
Iskauskas as chairman and Dennis
Snider as vice-chairman for the 1985
term.
Wm. Ive, of Ontario Street, attend-
ed this meeting to obtain council's
recommendation about his sewer pro-
blem. Apparently, the original con-
tractor failed to fill in a septic tank
when the sewer was installed,
creating a washroom hazard in one of
Ive's apartments. lye also complain-
ed that his lawn had been torn up by
the snow -clearing machine. ` ' -
Reeve Bob Sharen suggested that
the village look into widening the east
side of the walks. Hopefully this snow
will soon melt and these winter pro-
blems will float away.
In correspondence, a letter was
received from the Township of
Stephen. They decided to approve the
1985 fire budget draft as presented.
The share of each ' municipality is
$12,885.00.
Barb Southcott was named to
replace Mae Piggott on the Planning
Advisory Committee. Piggott's
resignation was accepted with regret,
but, council felt that Southcott would
be an asset to planning with her
knowledge of the area.
An increase of 8.73 percent in the
levy was received from the Ausable-
Bayfield Conservation Authority.
This assessment of $3,711.70 is
payable by April 30. A cheque for
$10,947.07 has been mailed to Mor-
rison, Beatt ' Ltd
ani st a ase II, south of
the village. A grant has been re-
quested from the Ministry of the
Environment.
Sharen has received complaints
about residents removing their snow
onto village streets. in the Highway
Traffic Act, this cannot be done as it
creates driving problems. The OPP
will be notified to inform offenders. in
one extreme case, a mountain of snow
was piled onto a private seasonal pro-
perly. The sidewalk became com-
pletely blocked and has been closed
for the winter duration because of
questionable snow removable
practices. -
Sharen also presented the idea by
reviewing some village businesses be-
ing run from their homes. Ile
wondered as to whether they should
he paying a business tax. Clerk
Dianne Mollard was directed to check
the Assessment Act for information
regarding business tax in the resort.

council decided to meet -this Thurs-
day, March 7 for a preliminary
budget meeting.
The Outcome of the in -camera ses-
sion was not available on Tuesday
morning. it concerned personal mat-
ters. Southcott Pines, and the tenders
for some doors. The meeting adjourn-
ed at 11:15 p.m.
