South Huron's girls volleyball
squads are off to a vigorous start after
it appeared that interest from both
players and coaches was insufficient
for a senior team.
This years senior volleyball team is
coached by Mr. Ha'penny, a new ad
dition to the teaching staff at the local
school. Ha'penny, with aid from
grade thirteen student Diane Zachar,

team.
Members of the squad include:
Irene Brand, Pauline Brand, Kendra
Arthur, Margi Chaffe, Cheryl
Dowson, Andrea Pearce, Angelina
Malik, Diane Willis, Kim Ingram,
Julia Barneston, and Angela Fleming.
The senior Panthers played two
league matches before their schedule
was interrupted by exams. The girls
split matches against Goderich and
Mitchell.
The seniors returned to the floor
after the ten day lay-off only to drop
tral. The Panthers quickly rebounded
tral. The Panthers quicly rebounded
to split two games wail Wingham
Madill.
Saturday the senior Volleyballers
travelled to Forest to participate in a
tournament. The Panthers enjoyed an
excellent day finishing runners-up at
the eight team event.
Winning five of their seven
preliminary games gave the locals a
berth into the semi finals where they
defeated a Sarnia school two games
to one to advance to the finals.
The senior Panthers met London
South in the finals only to lose the first
game of the match 15-5. The second
game of the match ended with a con-
troversial call to leave the locals on
the short side ota 16-14 score.
There was no lack of interest for
positions on the junior volleyball
team. Thirty-six hopefuls came out to
compete for one of the thirteen
available positions.
Coach Rae Wild's squad includes:
Julie Brown, Paulette Rothbauer.
Maureen Van Denboomen, Lee
Solden, Heather Ridout, Shelly Skin-
ner, Marilyn Hamilton, Janice
Schade, Tanya De'bridge, and Kim
Crawford. Wild is assisted by the
senior coach Mr. Ha'penny and Tinl
Rowcliffe a grade thirteen student.
The juniors opened their season
splitting matches with Goderich and
Norwell to record two points. After
the exam lay-off the juniors returned
to play managing only one of a possi-
ble four points in matches with Strat-
ford Central and Wingham Madill.
The junior Panthers visited Med-
way to take part in a seven team tour-
ny on Saturday. Bad weather condi-
tions in the area left the juniors short-
handed. The skeleton squad finished
fifth.
Both volleyball teams are busy this
week. Yesterday the Panthers con -
tinued with league play in Wingham
and travel to Seaforth today, Wednes-
day, for exhibition matches.
