Establish new firm
for grain equipment
Former customers of MF
Agribuilders will now be able to deal
with people they know for grain
equipment. Brad Marsden and Ross
Alexander, formerly of Agribuilders,
have opened their own grain systems
company. Almar Grain Systems Ltd.
is located in the old Milt Robbins and
Son building on Highway 4, north of
Highway 3.
Both Marsden and Alexander will
be doing basically the same work they
did with MF Agribuilders. The two
young men have taken over
Agribuilders' assets. "We took over
the old company because we had
developed a lot of customers in this
area, and we couldn't see losing all of
them to some other supplier when we
had worked hard to get their loyalty,"
Marsden said. "We're going to be do-
ing installation and servicing, not just
selling, and people like that."
Almar Grain Systems will carry all
grain handling equipment. They plan
to stock Butler and GSI grian bins,
Vertec grain dryers, DMC in -bin
grain- dryers, Caldwell aeration
equipment, Butler and GSI feed
tanks, and Cardinal grain elevators.
Vertec is a Canadian line of grain
dryers, made in Alberta, and Almar
will be the only dealer carrying the
line in this area. The second largest
dryer manufacturer in the world,
Vertec also has plants in England and
Australia.
Service will be an important part of
Almar; 24-hour servicing will be of-
fered on grain dryers bought
elsewhere as well as their own.
Equipment is serviced in the field, or
brought into the shop if necessary.
The new location has 1500 square feet
of space.
The commerical construction divi-
sion of MF will still be around, but
totally separate from and uncon-
nected to Almar. However "Almar
will honour any leftover obligations
from MF Agribuilders," according to
Marsden.
The partners are planning to build
their own line of augers soon. They
hope to be supplying augers as early
as' this year. "It will give us
something to keep us busy in the
winter," Marsden explained.
Financing for Almar has all been
private. "We have three sources of
private financing, and no bank money
as of yet," Marsden said. Almar is a
limited corporation. "We are going to
have five shareholders, but Ross and
I will be the active operators," he
said.
It might have beenfietter if the MF'
parent company had been split into
two separate companies from the
start, -Marsden said,. _"The
Agribuilders would still be in business
today if the parent company hadn't
failed."
Marsden and Alexander are happy
to be back doing what they know best,
and, "the old customers and suppliers
I've spoken to say they're happy to
see us." Marsden is ready for the new
challenge. "We can control more of
our own destiny this way. If we go out
of business, it will be our fault, not
somebody else's."
