4-11 news
January 28 was the date of the
Granton 1 4-H club. We started with
a game to get to know each other,
then voted for our officers and the
results were Colleen Rollings, presi-
dent and Louise Mardlin, vice
president.
The president opened the meeting
with the 4-H pledge. The roll call was
a quiz to see if we were beginners or
more experienced sewers. All
members were present.
We then read our 4-H guide book for
Meeting I from which we learned
what to put in our sewing boxes and
about different kinds of knits. We
finished with a puzzle. The meeting -
closed with the 4-11 motto.
We would like to thank April Bryan
for being our hostess.
Secretary Colleen Rollings
area gathered with them Saturday
evening for the birthday party.
Mr. Stebbins had a second birthday
celebration an evening last week
when he got together with friends,
Melvin and Gertie Stade and Gerald
and Joy Mason for a few games of
solo.
Hugh and I observed our 44th wed-
ding anniversary, Friday. We receiv-
ed several congratulatory phone
calls, special ones coming from
grandchildren Persephone and Chris-
tian, in B.C., and from my sister
Shirley Dell and family, in Belleville.
Visitors during the weekend and on
the weekend with Ken, Ortha and
Garry Baker, included Sheona Miller,
of London, Bert and Doris Schilbe, of

Regier, Chris, Heather and Jillian of

Vestry meeting at
Saintsbury church
By ALICE DICKENS
The history of Canda's frozen North
was a popular attraction in snowy
Ailsa Craig this week.
About 100 people a night visited the
Museumobile while it was in the
village from Jan. 28 to 31.
Museumobile guides Francine Jobin
and Joel Delaquis said that's good tur-
nout, especially for winter.
Daytime visitors to the
Museumobile included Grade 7 and 8
students from McGillivray Central
School. Teacher Julie Brownson
escorted three groups of students
through the Canada North exhibit.
The Museumobile was stationed at
the former school grounds. It was
staffed by the bilingual crew of the
National Museum's Mobile Exhibit
Programme. illustrated in the exhibit
was a capsule history of the North. it
starts in the prehistoric North begin-
ning with traditional Inuit kustoms
and the effect the coming of the white
man had on the native people, goes
to the Klondike Gold Rush, and then
to current Northern issues, like pro-
posals to transport natural gas year-
round by tanker.
This week, the Museumobile is in
Lucan. it will be at the Lucan Com-
munity Memorial Centre until noon
on Thursday Feb. 7.

House sailing
down street
There'll be a houseboat sailing
down Exeter's streets on April 1, but
deputy -clerk Laurie Dykstra may
have to wait until then to find out if
it's all part of an April Fool's joke at
her expense.
She told council this week that local
travel agency owner Doug Ellison
Siad requested permission to park a
houseboat between the town hall and
the Burkley Restuarant on that date.
The boat, she explained, is part of
a "Travel in Ontario" promotion be-
ing held at various centres amiss the
province.
After detailing the project, Mayor
Bruce Shaw told her that the whole
thing was really only a joke.
"Is it?" she embarrassingly
responded.
When the laughter subsided, coun-
cil passed a motion to allow the boat
parking. Reeve Bill Mickle moved
that "on April Fool's Day, Doug
Ellison be allowed to make a spec-
tacle of himself."

To log calls
On the recommendation of the ex-
ecutive committee, Exeter council
has -endorsed a resolution to imple-
ment a telephone log system to be us- •
ed by all town employees and depart-
ments for long distance calls.
In making the recommendation,
Mayor Bruce Shaw said the program
would be enacted so all long distance
calls would then be recorded and
could then be verified. Any un -logged
calls would then be checked with Bell
Canada and followed up.
"It's to let people know we're in-
terested in costs, even small ones,"
Shaw commented.
There was no indication that the
telephone system was being used for
private long distance calls.
