by slippery roads
Icy and snowy road conditions were
responsible for ►nost of the seven ac-
cidents investigated this week by of-
ficers of the Lucan detachment of the
Ontario Provincial Police.
Sunday at 9:30 p.m. a vehicle
driven by Sussan Gysemans of Strat-
ford left the roadway of Concession 7
in London township and struck a tree.
Constable McNaught of the Strathroy
detachment set damages at $2,100.
UCW continue
theme on Korea
Susan Rees led in New Year's devo-
tions to open the January meeting of
the Friendship Unit of Lucan United
Church Women.
She emphasized that God is with us
as we face the uncertain future and
suggested a number of New Year's
resolutions that are worth making life
long habits.
Anne Holden continued with the
Mission study on the theme "Human
Rights in Korea". She outlined the
long struggle of the Korean people for
freedom and the role of the church in
this struggle. Her study included a
time of small gr up discussions.
Marguerite McRoberts with the
help of Linda Froats, Susan Reese,
Donna Van Arenthals, Beth Miller,
Shirley Ryan and Willie Yule
presented a "Tater Meeting", a
humorous skit with application for a
UCW meeting.
Leader Linda Froats chaired the
business meeting. She outlined a
number of projects planned by the
general executive for the year.
Discussion followed about some of
these.
The girls then divided into three
teams for Bible trivia. This contest
will continue as a feature at the next
meeting.
The executive provided
refreshments for the closing time of
fellowship around the table.

A similar situation occurred Mon-
day at 5;25 p.m. when a vehicle
driven by Eric Evans, Denfield struck
a fire hydrant and house on Middlesex
road 16 in Ilderton. Constable Hodge
estimated damages at $800.
Vehicles driven by Sandra Lang, St.
Marys and James Dalton, RR 2,
Grand Bend collided on Highway 4 at
12:10 p.m. Tuesday. Constable
Stables set damages at $400.
Constable Wilson assessed
damages at $2,000 when a vehicle
driven by Richard Grunedler of Lon-
don left Highway 4 and rolled over at
8;30 p.m., Friday.
Five minutes later, a vehicle driven
by Jan Leenhouts, St. Thomas struck
a tree adjacent to Highway 23. Con-
stable Vance listed damages at $4,100.
Vehicles driven by Savy Tang, Lon-
don and Laura Foster, Strathroy were
in collision at 12;25 a.m., Saturday on
the Main street of Lucan. Damages
were listed at $2,100 by Constable
Briggs.
A vehicle operated by Steven
Green, Ilderton, left Middlesex road
20 at 1:30 a.m. Saturday and struck
a tree. Estimating damages at $1,500
was Constable Marshall.
Clandeboye
Due to the stormy weather, a cou-
ple of unexpected visitors dropped in-
to the Hodgins family at Shadyside
Farm. They were Aung Myint and his
wife Dr. Tham Tham Hla of Clinton.
Aung is a physiotherapist at Clinton
Hospital and his wife is a pediatri-
cian, but, has not practiced since
coming to Canada. They are original-
ly from Bur►na, but, are now Cana-
dian citizens.
The Clinton residents took their
medical training in England where
they met. They have two teenage
children.
They were a most interesting cou-
ple to chat with and their stay from
Saturday until Tuesday morning was
most enjoyable.
Guelph University students Debbie
Manders and Paul - Groenewegen
spent the weekend with their parents,
finally getting back to their studies
Tuesday morning.
Bonnie Manders visited her mother
Mrs. McLaughlin in London Saturday
afternoon, but. didn't get back home
until Monday afternoon.
Wilfred Cunningham is improving
from surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital
and expects to return to Craigholme
by the end of the week.

Jamaica.

Irish get three of
four OHA points
The Lucan Irish picked up three of
a possible four points in OIIA Western
Junior "D" play this week and
managed to hold on to third place in
the league standings.
Wednesday, the Irish were held to
a 4-4 tie by the Thedford Browns and
Friday they doubled the score 10-5 on
the Mitchell Hawks. Both games were
played at the Lucan arena.
The Irish were at home last night,
Wednesday to the Thamesford Tro-
jans and Friday night they travel to
Woodstock to meet the league leading
Braves.
A pair of power play goals helped
the Irish to jump into a quick lead
with four goals in the first period
In the first six minutes of play.
Brad Hodgins converted a pass from
Bob Thirlwall and Wayrw 1 rbshot1 hit
on a pass from Brent Martin

Keane finished off a three-way pass-
ing combination with Mark Bannon
and Brent Bannerman and Scott
Balazs was successful on a pass from
Bob Thirlwall with the Irish enjoying
a power play advantage.
The middle frame saw two Lucan
goals with Mark Bannon registering
on a pass from Jesse Crawford and
the latter tallied on an unassisted ef-
fort. The Bannon score came with
Lucan playing a man short.
In the clexsing period. Mark Bannon,
Jesse Crawford, Wayne tlrbsholt and
Brent Martin fired successful shots to
complete the Lucan scoring. Urbshott
and Marlin each picked up two assists
and Steve Keane assisted on one
score
Jeff Pauli led the Mitchell scoring
attack with a three goal performance
while Nturray Guy and Dean
\5'estrmr scored in single fashion.
In Wednesday's 4-4 tie with Thed-
ford. two of the Irish goals came on
power play efforts

scoring at 1 (1.1 of the second period on
a pass from Jesse Crawford with
Thedford playing a man short.
Bob Thirlwall converted a pass
from Rob Hardy at 4:22 to make it 2-0
and two minutes later Brent Martin
notched the second the power play
score on a pace from Jesse Crawford.
The final Irish goal at 9:08 of the
closing period was fired by Al Craig
on a pass from Brad Hodgins.
Randy Campbell led the Thedford
scoring with a hat trick to his credit

Drinking Drivers
Due to the importance the Provincial
Government has placed on trying to keep the
roads safe from Drinking Drivers;
And since the Council of the Township of
Usborne does support the actions of the
Province;
THEREFORE the Council of the Township of
Usborne is accepting applications of residents
who would be interested in sitting on such a
committee.
Applications will be received until February
19, 1985 at 12:00 p.m.
