Mrs. Beatrice Rader returned
home last week from a nice month's
vacation with her daughter and fami-
ly in Nova Scotia.

afternoon at 2:30 at the Zurich
Township hall.
Harvey and Edith Rohner spent a
few days the previous week with their
son Allan tlohner and family in Bar-
rie, and while there had a birthday
celebration for Harvey's 75th birth-
day on January 7.
A family birthday party was held
for two year old Brian Pole. son of
Cheryl and Bill on Friday night.
January 11 at his home which was at-
tended by his grandparents and great-
grandparents, aunts and uncles, 125
in all).
Kevin and Gisele Robson and three
children of Scarborough, Ont. spent
Saturday and Sunday with his grand-
parents Wilfred -and Beatrice

Skaters bring home medals from Windsor competition
Bob and Tootle Merner and Paul
and • Shirley Bedard spent the
weekend in Windsor while their
daughters. Kathy and Lisa, took part
in a figure -skating competition Fri-
day. Saturday and Sunday at the
Windsor Arena with contestants from
all over Ontario and the States.
The girls did very well; Lisa
Bedard received a bronze medal and
Kathy Merner placed sixth. Con-
gratulations to both.

Despite blustery weather 12
members attended the January
Women's Institute meeting.
The topic Family and Consumer Af-
fairs was given by Mildred Klopp. She
gave hints on first aid and asked the
rest to participate. Many useful hints
were given.
Kay Gay and Mildred Klopp were
nominated to audit the Huron South
District books for the annual meeting
in May -
A euchre party sponsored by the
W.I. is to be held in the township hall
Tuesday, January 22 at 8 o'clock. Ad-
mission $1.50. Lunch included.
Skating -
The students of St. Boniface School
will be going skating at the arena dur-
ing the month of January with classes
taking their turns.
Grades 7 and Ifs will also be play-
ing broomball while there.
Friday, January 18. from 12:45-2:45
(weather permitting) will be their
Winter Carnival. A11 parents are cor-
dially invited to attend and par-
ticipate in any of the above events.

evening with their new executive in

a young friend. Graeme Hooper from
New Zealand. staying with them.
They met while on a trip there in 1980.
Graeme comes from the Awatuna.
Taranaki region on the north island.
and lives 20 miles west of the city of
Stratford. His father is a sheep
farmer in their country Where there
are sixty million sheep. but Graeme
Inc work and for the past two years
worked in construction. }louse wiring
is different here than in New Zealand.
where it's all 220 volts, and done with
stranded wire.
Graeme left home in .tune to see
what the rest of the world is like. and
-has.spent time in Vancouver. Edmon-
ton. Brandon -incl -Winnipeg.-Still on -
his itinerary is Toronto. New York
and England. and perhaps a trip to
Israel before returning home in time
for Christmas 1985. Graeme hitch-
hikes with a pack on his back and
stays in youth hostels. Ile enjoys talk-
ing with people. and has mel a lot of
interesting folks while hitching rides.
Public skating began al the Varna
arena on Saturday. With skating on
Tuesday. Thursday and Saturday
evenings and Sunday afternoon. the
kids get lots of ice time and quickly
learn to skate well.
The 51anLee Seniors have decided -
lo lay out Iwo more shuffleboard
courts at the Sports Complex. A
potluck supper and Valentine party is
planned for the February meeting.
Varna United Church's annual
meeting is scheduled for next Sunday
following the clµrrc•h service. with
reports to be given before lunch. After
lunch. there are some important deci-
sions to be made, so the session is hop-
ing for a good attendance.
