Lucan United Church Women held
their January General meeting
Wednesday evening in the C.E. Wing
of the church- Mabel Froats opened
the meeting as she led in a hymn sing.
with Muriel Cobleigh at the piano.
Marion Lee continued the worship
period with a devotional message on
the theme "Growing Strong in the
Seasons of Lile."

Ducks responsible
for car hitting ditch
A flock of ducks crossing the road
cawed one of the •six accidents in-
vestigated this week by officers of the
Lucan detachment of the Ontario Pro-
vincial -Police.
It occurred Friday- at 12:45 a.m.
when a vehicle driven by tan M)r-
rison. RR 1. Thorndale skidded into
the ditch on Concession of London
township in attempting to avoid hit-
ting the birds. Constable Hodge set
damages at $3.000.
Sunday at 9:50 a.m. vehicles driven
by Douglas Jones. RI( 2. r.wd Devin Little. Arva collided on
Middlesex road 28 at 9:59 a.m. Sun-
day. Damages were listed at $325 by
Constable Briggs.

Jean Abel. Lindon collided on Mid-
dlesex road 28 at 12:20 a.m. Thursday.
Frjday at 4:15 p.m., a vehicle
driven by David Van .Men. London
went out of control on the icy surface
of Highway 7 and struck a hydro pole.
Constable 1lassail listed damages at
$6.500.
Vehicles operated by Reginald
Morrison. Kirkton and Paul Ellis.
London were in collision on Levitt
street in Granton at 5 p.m.. Friday.
Saturday at 6:05 p.m., a vehicle
driven by Donna Ilatfield, St. Marys
went out of control on the icy surface
of Middlesex road 27 and struck a
hydro tower. Constable Ifassall set
damages at 89.50(1.
Included in the :14 general occur -
and enter. five thefts of motor
vehicles. one of uttering a forged
document and one peeping tom
incident. -
the two United church missions pro-
jects in which our U.C.W. has a
special interest this year. "Pastoral
Care Partnership" is the first of
these. a Home Missions project which
gives temporary financial aid to
struggling churches in Canada. The
second assists the outreach of the
Church in Africa. the "Lesotho Save
the Children Fund."
Several women presented a short
Stewardshipskit which challenged in-
dividuals to respond to the needs of
others with their time. talents and
treasures. Those participaing were
Mabef F'roats, Marion Lee, Bernice
Lockyer, Beth Miller. Linda Froats
and Ruth Butler_

and February. chaired the business
meeting The proposed budget for
1985 was approved, and it was agreed
to change the date for General
meetings to the first Wednesday of the
month for the forthcoming April,
June. October and December
meetings.
The group voted to continue the
Learning tor Lent programme this
year, beginning the first Wednesday
morning in March. The Spring Sup-
per, the Fair Booth. and the
Snowflake Bazaar were all approved
as projects for 1985. A Community
Book Sale was tentatively adopted as
an October project
The evening closed with a social
hour with refreshments provided by
executive members from the Friend-
ship Unit.
Shuffleboard
for seniors
Ilarry Noels presided and welcom-
ed members and three visitors to the
Lucan seniors meetings.
'fhe Bulletin boards are both up.
Harry and Elmer went shopping this
week and bought shuffleboard equip-
ment, a 30 cup electric coffe perc and.
an electric tea kettle.
Regarding the I.G.A. tapes it was
asked that each member add and put
the total amount on the outside tape.
Muriel Cobleigh read a poem "New
Year's Garden" and a reading entitl-
ed -'Mom's Apron" was given by
Mary Kooy.
A skit followed entitled Radio S. and
B13(' Sunshine and Busy Buddies
Club with Gretaa-Gibson at the con-
trols. Those taking part were: Hazel
Williams. Kay Armstrong, Iva
Hodgins and Merna O'Neil. Today in-
stead of Crafts it was Keept-fit Class
under the direction of Nancy Van
Geel and January 17 Pat Hodgins will
present Mary Kay Cosmetics.
Craft prize winner Hazel Williams.
