Mohawks win streak to dozen
The Exeter Mohawks had little
trouble in chalking up their 12th win
of the season in Western Ontario
Athletic Association intermediate
ranks Friday night by drubbing the
Monkton Wildepts 14-6.

ducer for the Mohawks with three of
his four goals of the night coming in
the opening session. Assisting on his
first period markers were Brian
Mercer, Mark Cronyn and Barry
-Baynham.
Tom Ryan hit on a three-way com-
bination with Cronyn and Mercer and,_ _
(he latter two Mark Cronyn converted
a pass from Brian Mercer and the two
teamed up to set up Tom Ryan for a
gpal to cotnplete the Mohawks scor-
ing in the initial frame.

division and continue in third place in
the northern group.

Braves tonight. Wednesday at 8:15
p.m. at the Lucan arena. the league's
annual all star game goes in Lucan
Saturday night at 7 p m.
Seaforth jumped into a 3-1 first
period lead 1tednesday. Brent Mar:

Brussels 6 - !mean 1
The Brussels Bulls were thelirst
winners in the eighth annual tourna-
ment as they clipped the Irish 6-I. The
Bulls took a 3-2 lead in the first and
upped it to 5-3 by the end of the second
and then pulled the game out of reach
with a goal late in the third after the
Lucan crew pulled to within a single
tally.
Al Craig, Wayne Urbshott. Steve
Glenn and Steve Keane scored for the
Irish with Brent Martin assisting on
two and single assists going to Glenn.
Urbshott. Rob Hardy. Rob Thirlwall
and Jesse Crawford.
Troy Smith had pair to lead the
Bulls.
Brent Fowles handled the netmin-
ding chores for the Irish and record-
ed 31 saves, while Marty Souch had
34 for the Brussels crew.
Harvesters 3 - Trojans 1
The cellar dwelling Thajnesford
Trojans hadn't been expected to give
the Grand Valley Harvesters much of
a test in their first tournament con-
test, but that was far from the case.
Backed by the stellar netminding of
Scott Cornelisse. the Trojans stuck
right with the Harvesters and a give-
away by defenceman Scott Houston
early in the third war ecrunche
-Murray inter jumped on the puck
to drive one past Cornelisse, who end-
ed up with 44 saves in the game.
Howick 6 - Tavistock I
The Howick Optimists came out
smoking against the Western league's
top team from Tavistock and opened
up a 3-0 lead by the end of the first
period.
However. the Braves rebounded to
take a 4-3 lead late in the second and
then the Optimists evened the court
on a powerplay with 13 seconds left in
the middle frame. They scored the
winner at the 7:18 mark of the third.
Their final marker was into an emp-
ty net with five seconds left after the
Braves had tnissed on a couple of
good chances after they pulled their
goalie for an extra attacker in the
final minute.
TOP GOALIE —
netminder Peter Dearing was
chosen as the best netminder in
the weekend Junior "D" tourna-
ment. He kicked out 47 shots in
his team's 4-1 loss to Waterford.

Harvesters 9 - Waterford 2
While fans were anticipating a close
struggle in the final. the Harvesters
had other ideas and quickly mounted
an offensive thrust that buried the
Tri -Cats.
Grand Valley led 3-0 after one and
it was 7-2 after the second in a spirited
contest that saw the winners take 14
minors and the Tri -Cats 16.
Jamie Taylor paced the win with
four, goals and two assists.

The top players in the OHA Junior
'1)' western division will meet in the
annual all star game Saturday night
at 7 p.m. at the Lucan Community
Centre.
