Only 42 percent of the question-
naires regarding annexation mailed
to property owners in Southcott Pines
were returned for counting.
These residents of the Pines in
Grand Bend and Bosanquet Township
have showed opposition to the annex-
ation bid. Out of the 413 question-
naires mailed, the number of returns
was 174. or 42 per cent. Does that
mean that the remaining 58 percent
are in favor of annexation. undecid-
ed or just don't care either way''
Of those who voted "yes" to the
Grar*l Bend application. a number
liked the idea of having a vote in the
development of Grand Bend. All the
community should support Grand
Bend financially. with our tax,doliar•s
going to benefit the village, said one
supporter. We tell others vie are from
Grand Bend anyway, not Bosanquet.
Some questions that come up are
how many of the opposition are per-
manent families" How many are
year-round residents? Many of these
cottage/homeowners do not have
children attending schools in the area.
Annexation could help our little
village public school remain open_
Amongthose who were undecided,
some felt it was impossible to make
a decision until all of the financial and
other details are known. Another ex-
pressed concern about the tax impact
—that Might rosull it1 Bosanquet from
the need to finance water services -in ---
other portions of the township.
The greatest concern of those op-
posed to the annexation was the fear
of loss of privacy. More than 60 of the
residents commented that they love
their privacy and believed this would
deteriorate of they became part of
Grand Bend. This seems unjustified
as a portion of the Pines is already in
the village boundaries, commented
Reeve Bob Sharen, who is a resident
of the pines in the GB section.
