Want review of job descriptions
Huron County Council will give top
priority to a review of its employee's
job descriptions and evaluations in
1985.
A lengthy descussion was started at
county council's January session
when a recommendation from the
Huron Board of Health called for in-
creasing the current part-time nutri-
tionist. Cathy Thompson to full-titne.
County council approved the full-time
nutritionist. subject to ministry of
health approval.
The nutritionist, effective with the
county's second payroll in 1985. will
receive $2.5.454 a year. The position
has a salary schedule which ranges
from $22,646 to $27.378.
Bayfield Reeve Dave Johnston set
off an explosion of questions when he
asked why the nutritionist would be
starting mid -way through the range
instead of at the beginning salary of
$22,646.
Morris Township Reeve Bill Elston
explained that Mrs. Thompson has
been employed with the Board of
Health for 661 days since June 1977.
Countyclerk-treasurer Bill Hanly
added that Mrs. Thompson, as a part-
-time employee, is now at level three.
the level she will be as a full-time

from the county.
flay Township Reeve Lionel Wilder
suggested that the plans call for a
reduction in the number of beds at the
home. Lester agreed that would
possibly happen. Wilder then asked
what would happen to the people on
the Huronview waiting list.
The administrator said there are
actually empty beds in the home.
Those on the waiting list were called
and all said they would come to the
home when they were ready.
There was some concern about the
actual need for renovations to the
home.
McKillop Township Reeve Marie
Hicknell said she had toured other
nursing homes in the province.
"Then I come back to Huronview
and walk down the dark halls. And we
expect our seniors to live in this," she
said.
She said the tentative drawings
don't provide luxuries just privacy.
"We wouldn't want to use facilities
with eight and nine toilets and basins
in a row with everyone in their at
once," said Reeve Hicknell.

employee.
Reeve Johnston gave his thanks for
the explanation, but then questioned
whether salary increases are made on
the basis of the length of employment
or on their actual job performance.
"Is that county policy?" asked
Reeve Johnston.
Hanly replied that it is policy to
make salary increases annually.
Exeter Reeve Bill Mickle then
questioned whether employees' per-
formances are evaluated.
Medical officer of health Dr. Harry
Cieslar said the performance of
health unit staff is reviewed at "least
twice a year "
Mickle then called for job descrip-
tions to accompany salary schedules.
This, he said would set out how much
should be paid for the employeesbas-
ed on their performance.

Reeve Elston agreed with the Ex-
eter reeve. He mentioned an
employee in the planning department
who "automatically" had her salary
increased on the anniversary date of
the start of her employment. Junior
planner Cindy Fisher had her salary
level changed and now earns $24.414
annually. up from $23,322.
Neither the junior planner or the
nutritionist's salaries have been in-
creased to 1985 levels.
Exeter Deputy Reeve Lossy Fuller
called for job descriptions and evalua-
tion of employees to be a "top priori-
ty" in 1985. Warden Paul Steckle
agreed it would be.
"I'm not in anyway critical of this
employee I Mrs. Thompson)," said
Reeve Johnston. "But, as an elected
official I have to ask the questions."

tion and operated until taken over by
the Upper Thames Conservation
Authority.
Donations were made to the
Kirkton-Woodham Community Cen-
tre the swimming pool and floodlights
at the ball park.
Despite the future inactivity of the
garden party, area organizations will
still receive financial help. A goodly
sum of money has been invested in
bonds and interest from these will be
used to continue support of wor-
thwhile projects.
In conclusion, Lee Paul told the T-
A, "Personally when the third
Wednesday of July rolls around this
year I know I will be watching the
weather and think of all the happy
times I had in lining things up at the
Kirkton Garden Party. I want to
thank everybody for all of their co-
operation. It has been a team effort
all the way. Any show that runs as
long as we did must have been doing
somehting right."
