Mrs. Arthur Smale presided for the
Tweedsmuir meeting of the Staffa
Women's Institute, held in the
township_hall, Staffa.
Mrs. Ken Pullman introduced the
guest speaker for the evening. Mrs.
Alison Lobb, Clinton, who gave a most
interesting talk on Family Trees, tell-
ing how to go about researching your
family history and how to compile it.
She had a number of books on display.
Mrs. Lobb was thanked by Mrs. Jack
Burchill.
Fifteen members and three visitors
were present. Roll call, do you keep
a diary, and if so for how long? A good
percentage answered yes, several for

Teakettle Broth. Mrs. Lloyd Miller
gave a report on a recent district ex-
ecutive meeting, telling everyone
about the Perth County Rally on Oc-
tober 10 at Atwood beginning at 10
a.m. with Staffa responsible for a
reading. She also reminded everyone
about the London Area Convention be-
ing held in London this year on Oc-
tober 30 and 31. Meal tickets are to be
purchased through the branches by
October 15, spending payment to Mrs.
Alice Porter, R5 Goderich. Staffa to
supply a gift value 4 to 5 dollars for
the craft table.
Mrs. Charles Douglas and Mrs.
Lloyd Miller were setting up the
display on "A Babies World" for the
Mitchell Fair. A thank you was read
from the Cromarty Scout Association.
Lunch served by Mrs. John Drake
and Mrs. Bill Kerslake followed the
close of the meeting.

was a weekend guest of Miss Jill
Norris.
Barb Templeman has returned to
Humber College, Rexdale, to begin
her second year in Public Relations.
Staffa Womens Institute are very
proud of Katie Kerslake, whom they
sponsored in the Queen of the Fair
competition. Congratulations Katie
for being chosen Queen of the Fair at
Mitchell.
At Crediton WI
Speaker on diet at next meeting

September 18, Elaine Gottschall
will be guest speaker at the Crediton
Women's Institute. Her topic will be
agriculture and diet. Roll call is name
your favourite vegetable. Everyone is
welcome to attend.
The sermon topic at Zion United
Church Sunday was taken from
Isaiah 43:8-13 and Psalm 121:1-8 titl-
ed My Faith looks up.
There were five children baptized
and they were Kristopher William
Douglas, son of Mr. and -Mrs. Robert
Finkbeiner; Jason Kerby
MacEachern, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ron MacEachern; Karl -Heinz
Douglas and Ben Matthew, sons of
Marianne Ortmanns and Ervin Pfaff;
Bradley Kenneth, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Howard Schenk.
Choir practice is 7:30 p.m. at the
church and at 8:00 p.m. there will be
an official board meeting in the Sun-
day School rooms of the church.
There is also a hall board meeting
at 8 p.m. in the Community Centre.
A surprise birthday party for Erma
Krueger who celebrated her 76th bir-
thday was held September 6 at Pei .'s
Restaurant in Crediton.
Those attending were Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Fahner and Ronald, Mr. and
Mrs. John Stewart, Mr. and Mrs.
Chuck Collett, Mrs. Joe McCann,
Mrs. Margaret Clark, Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Jesney, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry
Schenk, Mrs. Marion Schenk, Mr. and
Mrs. Doug Lewis, Mrs. Mary Kenney,
Mr. and Mrs. Stan Preszcator, Jerry
Gaiser. Music was provided by Doug
Lewis, Margaret Clark, John Stewart,
Gerald Gaiser, Stan Preszcator and
Jack Jesney. Erma was presented
with red roses. Cake and ice cream
was served. Everyone had a good
time.

Smith were among the guests atten-
ding the Howitt-Lisi wedding at St.
Patrick's Church in Markham and the
reception at Silvani's Palace in
Weston, Saturday. David Paynter
joined them for brunch and a brief
visit Sunday at the Triumph Sheraton
in Toronto.
Tom and May Kooy were Sunday
visitors with Mrs. Helen MacDonald,
Lucan and all attended the beef and
pork barbecue at the Lucan arena.

United Church after the summer
break. Classes for all ages get under-
way each Sunday morning at 11:15

holidaying in Providence Bay,
Manitoulin Island. They spent the
week at the cottage of Don and Lor-
na Finkbeiner.

holiday at cottages

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Duncan spent
part of last week with Mr. and Mrs.
Dennis Duncan and Douglas at their
cottage near Westport. Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Duncan also visited one day with
Mr. and Mrs. Red Keely of Kingston.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bray and Mr.
and Mrs. Arnold Cann spent most of
a week recently at a cottage at Sau-
ble Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rohde were Fri-
day supper guests with Mrs. Mar-
guerite Gibson, of London.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cunnington
were guests at the Miller-Bendell
wedding at St. James Anglican
Church St. Marys, Saturday. The
Cunnington family attended the
reception at Kirkton Woodham Com-
munity Centre, Saturday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Dawson spent
last week at their cottage on Lake
'Fimiskaming.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Preece and
Robin, Centralia were Sunday even-
ing supper guests with Mr. and Mrs.
Ross Ballantyne and Jim.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Miller and
grandson Philip Dolmage, Staffa, and
Mrs. Rob Baxter and Jeremy, Mit-
chell were Sunday supper guests with
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Duncan and Floyd.
Church Service -
Rev. Robert Matheson was in
charge of the regular church service
on Sunday morning. He told the
children a story entitled "Armour".
The sermon was entitled "Of
Course Of Faith".
David is not only instructing his
heir as to how to perform his duties
as monarch but also telling Solomon
and the rest of us how to live in faith.
Ephesians; reminds us of the power
of prayer - of our need to pray and
stresses the value of new beginnings
new opportunities.

we worship; or the strength -of our
faith and dedication to God and
Christ?
The Presbytery Meeting will be
held Tuesday September 24 at Camp
Bemini.
A Combined Session Meeting will
be held at the manse September 30 at
8 p.m.
