Lack of action a concern
Members of the South Huron rec
centre board expressed concern this
week that lack of action against some
local juveniles who broke into the
agricultural building and damaged
items may hurt their chances of lur-
ing customers to store items in the
facility this winter. .
It was finally agreed to take the
matter up with the town's police
committee.
Board chairman John Pym, one of
those who had items stored in the
building and damaged last winter,
said the perpetrators shouldn't be
permitted to get away without some
punishment or reprimand.
Heart donations down
Exeter giving more
The Huron chapter of the Ontario
heart and Stroke Foundation reports
that donations for the current year
are about $3,000 lower than the
previous one.
Donations through the period from
,July- 1984 to June 3 of this year have
reached $36,361.97. The total for the
previous year was $39,145.22. -
Exeter showed one of the largest
ghns with donations this year being
$5,695.t)5, compared to- $3,594.75 the
previous year. Stephen . Township
showed the largest decline with dona-
tions of only $35; compared to
$1,299.85. However, the villages of
Centralia, Dashwood, Iluron Park
and Crediton were removed from the
township list and given separate
status this year. Centralia contributed
$190, Crediton $188.00, Dashwood $516
and Iluron Park $269.56. The contribu-
tions from Zurich were $529.50 and
Hensall's was $826.55. Both the latter
were down over the previous year.
Rounding out the area donations
were !lay at $.5813.74, Stanley $1,442.(N3,
"You can't break into any other
building in town and get away with it
as far as I know," he commented in
urging that the police process action
against the youngsters who did the
damage.
Staff member Gary Lavier advised
that the police had talked to the
youngsters involved, but it was not ex-
pected that charges would be laid.
Ref! director Lynne Farquhar and
Lavier advised the board that the
agricultural building has been made
more secure to prevent further
breakins.
"It's pretty secure now," com-
mented the former.
Members expressed the (tope that
last year's experience would not deter
people from storing items this winter.
In another police associated mat-
ter, the personnel and policy commit-
tee had their recommendations ap-
proved that the Exeter police be ask-
ed to patrol the premises on an ir-
regular but frequent basis in an ef-
fort to curb the illegal consumption of
alcohol that is taking place.
The report indicated that despite
the publicity given to the problem. it
is continuing "or even increasing."
CarolynMernersaid a letter'advis-
ing users of the police plan to crack-
down on illegal drinking should be cir-
culated. She explained that some
groups have become accustomed to
having alcohol in the dressing rooms
and should be advised that this prac-
tice should be stopped.
"Hasn't it been advertised
enough?" questioned Ifardeman.

ed the hoard that the minutes of the
last meeting had been checked by Ex-
eter clerk Liz Bell and the latter in-
formed that the order of a motion and
subsequent amendments had been
listed in the incorrect order.
In addition, Bell had advised that a
recorded vote could not be conducted
after a vote had actually been taken
on a motion.
Usborne representative Brian
Hardeman was adamant in his stance
that the board had acted properly in
approving a recorded vote and also
disputed the fact the order of the mo-
tion and amendments in question had
been incorrect.
• "Tell Liz she may have erred." he
advised the secretary.
The disctitsion arose after the mo-
lion had been made at Thursday's
meeting to adopt the minutes.
That then required an amendemnl
that the order of the motion and
amendments from the previous
meeting be changed in the minutes.
