Carmel choir fetes engaged couple A most enjoyable afternoon was spent at the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Love and daughters. Bayfield, when members of Carmel Church choir and friends gathered in honour of Mr. and Mrs. John Thom- son. and Miss Mary Thomson, whose marraige takes place on August lo. • Carolyn Love conducted several contests, winners being John and Bruce Thompson, Bob Taylor, Marg Hoggarth and Ken Steckle. Following a sumptuous supper. Cathy Love read an address to the guests of honour and 'they were presented with gifts by Dorothy Taylor and Bertha MacGregor. They made fitting replies of thanks. Motocross racing Jim Dickins rode two strong, fast motos in the 80A class at Hully Gully motocross races. The competition was close as the riders are getting ready for the Schoolboy Canadian Championship that will be held this year al Molo Park near Durham August 4 and 5. Jim finished fourth in the first moto and sixth in the second to give hire fourth overall. Jim will be racing in Action next weekend and Hully Gully on Jul' 28 and then will be trying for the Cana- dian Championship on the ,Civic weekend. John Kochan finished fourth in the 80B class, afte riding two good motos. Queensway Nursing Home Again this week everyone took ad- vantage of the good weather and spent time outdoors. Monday afternoon we had the privilege of going to l\1aril•n Faber's farm. She is, on the - staff at Queensway. We saw sheep, veal calves, chickens and goats. Marilyn realty went out of her way and had fabulous snacks for us in- cluding chocolate cake. chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter cookies. Special thanks to Marilyn and her mother for an absolutely wonderful afternoon. A noon barbecue was on the agen da for Tuesday. Everyone enjoyed hotdogs and hamburgers as well as fresh air and sunshine. That same day the- church service was led by Rev. Matheson. He was accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Jean Hodgert. A trip to Stratford on Wednesday was an enjoyable outing for many residents. We had lunch at McDonald's and spent the afternoon at the Art Fair in the park. Al Hoggarth spent a few days in Chicago. While there he toured the research facilities of Michigan Stale University, the Upjohn 'Phar- maceutical Laboratory, the Chicago - Board of Trade, Mercantile Ex- change. and Sears Tower in Chicago. Kai Wisch has returned from spen- ding a few weeks vacation in his birth place of Germany. His grandmother, Berta Ruge and cousin Kristina Wisch, came back with him to spend a few weeks vaca- tion with Ber'ta's son Uwe and fami- ly. Berta's hometown in Germany is Marne. , Kippers United Church news Don't forget the induction service on Wednesday July '24 at 8 p.m. This will take place in Brucefield United Church. when Rev. Lorne Keays will be inducted as the new minister in charge of lirucefield and Kippen churches. Many artists were from the Stratford area. A fan- tastic day in all. Friday we enjoyed charades in the morning. In the afternoon we had tea party in Louise Mitchell's room. where Louise and Lucille Jeffrey entertained the rest of us with a few residents of old and loved tunes. For most of Wednesday afternoon the majority of residents played bingo in the sun room. A croquet tournament was held Thursday afternoon on the side lawn. Although not everyone entered, it was quite evident that those who took part were experienced in the sport. Will Shapton and Muriel Gunning were the winners in the mens and ladies divi- sion respectively. United Church There was a large attendance at the United Church on Sunday morning when Mr. McDonald returned to the pulpit after a week's meeting in Quebec. Margaret Cole greeted the congregation and Jeff Corbett and Wayne Corlett were the ushers. Evelyn Elder was leader of the Junior Congregation. During the service three children. were received through Infant Bap- tism. Robert Lee Leonard Erb. son of Bob and Sharon Erb; Heather Catherine Irvine, daughter. of Stewart and Betty Irvine; and David Floyd Upshall, son of Floyd and Rosemary Upshall. Mindy Bell was soloist and sang a very appropriate solo during the Baptismal Service, -"Little Moses In The Basket". At the close of the service she sang "Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam" - Mr. McDonald spoke on the subject of "How Are You Growing Up". Ile noted how we need (0 continually grow in Christian faith. Northcrest news Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Chipchase returned Tuesday from a western trip to Vancouver Island and also visited with Ernie's two brothers, one in Alberta and one at Tumbler Ridge B.C. Mrs. Britton's granddaughter Lori from Brampton visited with her last week. The residents enjoyed a delicious pot -luck dinner Thursday evening with 15 in attendance. Mr. Wes Heywood attended a fami- ly picnic at Riverview Park. Exeter on Sunday. Nerson McClinchey of Brantford was a visitor with the McKnight's on the weekend. Hazel Luther had her grand- daughter from Ottawa visiting with her recently. Irene Finlayson and Rose Pyke visited Dorothy Munroe who is a pa- tient in Seaforth Community Hospital. on Friday evening.
