To fill rec position
The South Huron rec centre board
of management agreed this week to
recommend to council that the vacant
position of maintenance worker he
filled.
However, there appeared to be
some confusion over whether the
move would alleviate a suggested
shortage -of help for the staff.
The preamble of the recommenda-
tion from the personnel and policy
committee explained that due to
reduced manpower. the staff have
been unable to maintain essential ser-
vices and have been unable to keep up
with or initiate other services such as
trimming of brush along diamond
four.
During the discussion. it was in-
dicated that the stall would not
necessarily be ircreased by the move,
as a current casual worker is working
on a full-time basis.
There were also concerns regar-
ding the budget if the vacant position
was filled and the casual work was
maintained at the current level.
''I have to prove (lo council ) that
we have to fill the position." com-
mented 'Toni Humphreys.
('atlas' Whiteford contended the
arguments for filling the vacant posi-
tion weren't valid if it meant that no
more staff would actually he

After the tour a meeting was held
in which president Phyllis Rodd had
charge. The minutes and cor-
respondence were read by the
secretary Joyce Strahan. A display
will be set up at Kirkton Fair
September 13, by two members. We
will be serving 25-30 people at the
friendship centre during August.
