No stars to challenga local bigand little stars
a son of Worthy Bowl, who stands at Seelster Farms in Lucan. Pur -
Tuesday, July 23 will be a big night in Exeter for big and little
people in Exeter.
That's the night, the London CJBK No Stars slo-pitch team will
be in town to take on the alt stars from the South Huron and district
Association of Big Brothers and Sisters.
The game gets underway at 8 p.m. on the main diamond at
the South Huron Rec Centre and is bound to create lots of excite-
ment and fun.
All proceeds of the game will go to aid general projects of the
local group which now has 24 matches of area little brothers and
sisters.
Some of the stars for the Exeter based team will be Paul "Cy
Young" Waddell, Connie "the Shaker" Illman, Dorothy
"Twinkletoes" Chapman, Bill "The Extractor" MacGregor, Paul
"King of the Diamond" Anstett, Albert "Roadrunner" Van Dyken,
Cord "Carry the Mail" Nichol, Lois "Dizzy" McCallum and Case
"the ace" Zeehuisen.
Added to this we have agreed to take our white cane out of the
mothballs and get our seeing eye dog back in training to take on
the chore of calling balls and strikes. My accomplice will be Chip-
per Chipchase. Should be lots of fun. See you there!
Off and running
Goderich Raceway hosts it$ first Ontario Sires Stakes event
of the season Thursday, July 18 with the province's finest two-year-
old colt trotters coming to Canada's "prettiest little town".
The race at Goderich is a crucial one for these trotting colts
as it serves as a warm-up for their July 25 meeting at Toronto's
Greenwood Raceway when they will race for a purse of $100,000.
The star of this division so far has been Jayport Worthy Vic,
chased as a yearling for $6,300, Jayport Worthy Vic has already
earned $22,155 at this writing and is undefeated in both his Ontario
Sires Stakes starts at Kingston Park Raceway and Sudbury Downs.
Trained by Maurice Danko for the Nadus Stable of Simcoe and
Earl Gee of St. Williams, Jayport Worthy Vic has been driven to
both his victories by Ray McLean, certainly no stranger to
Goderich fans.

in Jayport Worthy Vic's wake so lar this season. The colt finished
second to him at Kingston Park and third at Sudbury, but he still
has earned more than $7,400 this season for owner Peter Clements
of Dobbinton.
Arawana Rasputin, a son of Laryngitis, trained by fireman
Neil Flear of Rosemont (near Orangeville), is the fastest two-year-
old trotting colt in North America at this writing. The Raz' won
an $11,000 stakes (not an OSS event) at Flamboro Downs in Dun-
das in 2:07.3/5 for driver Jim McClure but was defeated by Jayport
Worthy Vic at Sudbury.

Flear, who is a part-time horseman, has earned a reputation
for developing top trotters as he had General D Brook, a multiple
Ontario Sires Stakes winner of more than $260,000. General D Brook
has since been sold and he is Canada's representative in the In-
ternational Trot at Roosevelt Raceway in New York, where he will
compete against the world's greatest trotters.
Other possible starters might include: K M Lazer, another
Worthy Bowl colt who has won in 2:07.1/5 for trainer Laurie Bako;
Worthy Herbert who races out of trainer Dave Wall's stable. Bred
by the Wm. Herbert Stables of Lambeth, this colt is also a son of
Worthy Bowl. Worthy Herbert was purchased earlier this season
for a six figure sum by owners the Galleon Stable, the Green,
White, Red Stable of Weston, and the Wall Tyme Stables of
Komoka; Vernon Vue Pat, a homebred son of Amazing Speed own-
ed by Clare Vernon of Port Perry. This colt has picked up a se-

This Sunday the two-year-old pacing Tillies make their way to
Kingston Park Raceway for a $30,000 Ontario Sires Stakes event,
you can be stere some records will fall.
. A truly outstanding group of girls has emerged this year, and
many of them will be swinging down to Kingston after taking in
the first 'A' event for this group one week earlier at Ottawa's
Rideau Carleton Raceway.
One of these is Anna Gem originally trained by Kelso Simp-
son of Ridgetown. The Springfield filly, obliterated Fan Hanover's
track record when she won in 1:59.3/5 at London's Western Fair
Raceway in OSS competition. Simpson sold Anna Gem for an un-
disclosed sum before that race to Bill Ellergton of Exeter and Dave
Morrissey of Ailsa Craig.
