Times-Advocate, 1985-07-10, Page 7Need 15 years Huron County Council won't give recognition to its members until they have served an accumulated 15 or more years of service. It took two recorded votes for coun- ty council to decide at its July 3 meeting to install a plaque in the court house's public gallery. On this plaque will be listed the names of county councillors who have served 15 or more years. County council voted 18 to 9 in favor of placing the one plaque in the court house. An earlier motion to give coun- ty councillors a plaque after they have served on council for five years was turned down in a 17 to 10 record- ed vote. Hullett township reeve Tom Cunn- ingham said the five year plaque would be "pompous" and he voted against boyh plaques. Colbourrfe township reeve Russel Kernighan voted the same way as Reeve Cunningham and said the council would be forming a mutual admiration society if the idea of the plaques goes forward. "We are here to do a service for our county," said Hay deputy -reeve Tony Bedard. Exeter deputy -reeve Lossy Fuller spoke in favor of both motions. She said the plaque would point out to the children and grandchildren of coun- ty councillors the years they served Huron. "There have been times when we have' spent money foolishly. But I think this is important," said Mrs. Fuller. Those voting in favor of the public gallery plaque for 15 or more years for recognition service are as follows: West Wawanosh reeve James Aitchison. Grey reeve Leona Armstrong. Ashfield reeve John Austin, Clinton reeve Ernest Brown, Goderich deputy -reeve J.P. Doherty, Morris reeve Bill Elston, Exeter deputy reeve Fuller, Bayfield reeve Dave Johnston, Wingham reeve Joe Kerr. Hensel! reeve Harry Klungel. Brussels reeve Cal Krauter, Turn - berry reeve Brian McBurney, Howick reeve Jack Stafford, Stanley reeve Paul Steckle, Goderich township reeve Grant Stirling, East Wawanosh reeve Neil Vincent, Stephen reeve Alan Walper, Stephen deputy reeve Ralph Weber. Those voting against the public gallery plaque are: Hay deputy reeve Tony Bedard, Tuckersmith reeve Bob Bell, Seaforth reeve Bill Campbell, Hullet reeve Tom Cunningham, Zurich reeve Bob Fisher, Colborne reeve Russel Kernighan, Exeter reeve Bill Mickle, Usborne reeve Gerry Prout and Hay reeve Lionel Wilder. These county councillors also voted against the five year plaque along with reeves Aitchison, Arm- strong, Austin, Brown, Doherty, Johnston, McBurney, and Weber. Those absent were McKillop reeve Marie Hicknell, Blyth reeve Tom Cronin, and Goderich reeve Harry Worsell. Times -Advocate, July 10, 1985 Page 7 i Order your Cherries Now!
