Hawks winning streak ends at four
The Exeter Hawks had
their winning streak halted at
four games. Monday. when
they were dumped 8-4 by the
"league leading` Tavistock
Braves, but they have taken
a rather comfortable margin
'in the battle for a playoff
position.
Playing away from home
appears (0 sit well with. the
locals as they skated to two
more victories this week
against northern division
clubs.
They have now amassed 21
points. five more than the
Mitchell Hawks. The Exeter
crew trail the third place
Thedford Browns .by only
three points.
The Hawks started the .
week off with a convincing 5-0
whitewash of their
namesakes in Mitchell and.
then came back with a 5-2
triumph in Thedford on Sun-
day in a chippy match.
• They have won six of their
last eight games, keyed by
the improved play of their
defensive unit and goalies
Mike Tadgell and have Rook
in particular. • •
The locals had established
a. goals -against average of -
over six per game in the first
part of these so b ti hi
last eight games have cut that
to under tour, .
They still have five games
remaining in their road trip
before returning for a home
game. Wednesday night
they'll face the second place
Lucan Irish and then they'll
return to Tavistock for a
January 1 game and be in
Mitchell the following
Tuesday.
The Hawks have yet to beat'/
either Tavistock or Lucan and
'have been bombed Ili most en-
counters with the• leo top
r
teams in the divi,1011
Bubble bora.
In Tavistock, Mundt . only
the fine play of goalie Mike
Tadgell kept the score respec-
table as the Braves
• dominated play to take a 7-1
lead by the end of the second
and then coasted to the
triumph.
Tadgell was peppered with
a total of 58 shots. while the
Hawks` managed only :33 at
Braves netminder Maury.
Sauder. .
Tadgell was particularly
brilliant in the first period
Braves then pumped six Hawks with two`goals, while
straight into the net. Jeff Rowe and Ed Willis add -
Tony Jones paced the ed the singles. Mike Clark
assisted on two tallies and
helping out on one each were
Dave Sk a, Pete Tuckey and
Willis.
.CORRECTION
A 'little gremlin in the
typesetting machine left out a
line of type in the article on
the meeting to discuss the fate
of Ecole Ste. Marie. The
paragraph should have read:
The board is required by the
ministry of education to
review all schools with less
than 60 percent of the provin-
cially weighted figure of 35
students per class. To melt
that criterion, Ecole Ste.
Marie would nerd a student
enrolment of 84..
We apologize for the
omission.

efforts, Exeter also scored a
short-handed tally.

ford had to use a second sheet
to record the penalties in Sun-
day's game which the Hawks
won by a 5-2 margin.
The Browns took 25
penalties and theExeter crew
had 19 as both clubs quickly
lost the Christmas spirit that
culminated in a third period
fight between Steve Prout and
Ron Livingston. -
The Hawk's took a 2-1 lead
in the first period and scored
three more in the second,
while Dave Rook came up
with his second straight
stellar performance in the,
nets to keep the Thedford
'crew at bay.
Tony Underhill paced the
attack with a pair of tallies,
while singles were .fired by
Scott Brintnell, Pete Tuckey

ment, while helping out on

Whitewash Mitchell
The Exeter crew scored in
the second minute of play and

the first period as they c m-
pletely dominated play. giv-
ing their hosts only . three

powerplay and once while
short-handed.
Rook ended up with 21
saves in posting the
