stages crowd -pleases

The children of Varna Sun
day School put on an excellen
concert again this year for an
audience that crowded the
township hall. The stage was
filled with children for the
opening and closing number,
the little ones', eyes dancing
with excitement. Recitations
were given throughout the
program by Chris Taylor,
Cheryl Stephenson, Krista
McAsh, Raymond _Beierling;
Mark Webster. Brian Hill,
Mary Ellen Webster, Suzanne
Stephenson. Sandra Coultis
and Jason McAsh.
The story of Jesus' birth
was portrayed by the
kindergarten class as teacher
Shirley Hill narrated the
story, with Raymond Beierl•
ing and Suzanne 'Stephenson
playing Joseph and Mary.
The Primary class did a
couple of numbers, including
"Six Little Christmas Bells".
"Henry Duck's Christmas"
by the Juniors. with Krista
McAsh in the lead role, had a
good message and some good
duck laughs.
- An updated version' of
"Twas the Night Before
Christmas" by Greg Taylor
and Jim Hill had the children
Screaming with laughter.
The Senior class kept their
original performance a sur-
prise, even to the other -
students. The "Christmas.
Surprise" was a. visit 'from
E.T. at the young folk's
Christmas party.
Musical numbers were
played by Scott Kirton tin
guitar, Susan Kirton. Darryn
McAsh, Robyn Norman and
Nancy Webster at the piano.

God in Grand Elend were,
Lucille Vincent, Judy Snyder,
Lenore Orr, Eleanor Durie
and Annie Morenz.
Melissa Plein; of Elmira,
three-year-old daughter, of
Suzanne and O to Plein, spent.
last week her* visiting her
grandparents, Leota and Fer-
man Snyder.
The Snyders took Melissa
home last Friday. and Leota's
sister, Kaletta Musselman of
Kitchener. returned with
them for a holiday. •
On Saturday afternoon the
Snyder's and Kaletta went on
the bus trip, sponsored by the
Beaconaires club, to see the
Slrticoe •• lights. A shopping
stop was made a Coyle's fac-
tory and the group stopped in
St. Thomas for supper.
Mrs. Elsie Comfort and her
daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Anger,
of Welland, visited here a cou-
ple of days last week al Mrs.
Cornfort'S daughter. Eva and
Milton Sweitzer. They also
visited Mrs. Comfort's other

Eleanor Durie visited a day

Jeanette Keys read the
Christmas Story as a child
would tell it, while Julie
Webster showed children's
drawings on the overhead
projector. Santa entered the
hall to "Here Comes Santa
Claus" sung by all the
children. and distributed
presents to all.
Next Sunday is Christmas
Sunday in our churches, and
on Thursday the 23rd at 7:30
the annual Birthday Party for
Jesus will be held in Goshen
church. This is an enjoyable,
relaxed evening of carol sing-
ing. artistic activities for
children, and birthday cake
and coffee, and is well -
attended by families from
both congregations. Everyone
is welcome:
A big crowd gathered at the .
Recreation Centre in Hensall
On Friday night to celebrate
with Bill and ;Marjorie Consitt
in honour of their silver wed-
ding anniversary, which was
on December 7. The con-
gratulatery address was read
by Tom Consitt, and Bill and
Marjorie both replied.

Mary Nichols, a Missionary
in India, which was veru in-
teresting. Miss Jean Cole and

companied by Mrs. Alf Ross
at the piano.
Rev. McDonald gave the
message "Love Came Down
at Christmas" and closed
with the Benediction.

W.M.S. of Cromarty
Presbyterian Church held
their combined Christmas
and annual meeting at the
home of Betty Dow, A
Christmastide Poem was
read by Edna Stoneman who
presided. The ladies united in
a Christmas Prayer following
the singing of the Advent
Hymn, accompanied : by
Muriel Scott on the autoharp.
"Are we ready for
Christmas?" was the thought-
provoking theme of Betty
Dotv's•topic. The worship ser-
vice, in which all members
took part, dealt with some of
the traditional symbols of
Christmas,' and was in-
terspersed with Christmas
carols and suitable Scripture
passages.
Roll call proved interesting .
when each member recall-
ed a very special Christmas.
Agnes Lamond reported. nine
.cards sent and five visits .
made to sick and shut-ins.
Lillian Douglas read the
minutes of the November
meeting and Lila McKaig
gave the treasurer's report.
During the business, con-
ducted by the president,
Dorothy Miller, reports were •
read whichindicated a very
busy and successful year. The
slate of officers will remain
unchanged for 11183.
The meeting closed with a
social hour during which the.
hostess served A tasty lunch.

Lord's Supper was celebrated
