Stanley reeve
Members of Stanley coun-
cil, all acclaimed to office to
serve another term, held their
inaugural meeting on
December 6. Invited guest
Rev. Wilena Brown, minister
of Varna United Church,
spoke to the council about
power as viewed from a
"worldly" and a Christian
perspective.
The Christmas message
emphasizes the worth of the
individual, she elaborated,
and a council applying the
principles of live, patience
and hope in its dealings with
its constituents is using power
in a responsible and Christian
way.
After predicting that the
next three years will be dif-
ficult ones, and asserting "we
have the will and the purpose
to accomplish the difficult,
and the courage to challenge
the impossible", Reeve Paul
Steckle outlined some of the
sets sights on complex

projects he trusts will become
realities.
Budgeting for a complex
containing the municipal of-
fice, council chambers, a
work centre and a communi-
ty hall by 1985 topped the list.
Other_priorities included like-
ly action to provide potable
water for residents along
highway 21, a by-law to
govern the use of mobile
homes, and a yearly review of
the date and frequency of tax
collection.
Changes in the administra-
tion of farm drainage money,
the planning act, and propos-
ed tax changes for 1984 will
have an impact on the way
council carries out its duties,
and, will almost certainly
precipitate changes at
township levels.
Council passed a by-law
changing the method of col-
lecting tile drainage loans.
Effective January 1983, loans
made in 1982 and all subse-
quent years will be removed
from the tax roll and be col-
lected on the anniversary of
the date each debenture was
issued.
Tile drainage debentures of
$46,000 were passed, and tile
drainage loan applications
totalling $18,000 were
approved,
The first instalment of
township taxes, 110 mills, is
due March 15 as in previous
years.
Council will contact Ontario

make our float.
Thank you Brian Brand and
Shane Pfaff for helping 'to

This is our list of things we

decorations up; put up our

window. We drew Christmas
During rehearsal at a com-
munity theater, there was an
unusual accident. A teenager
outside lost control of his car,
crashed through the back
wall of the theater and ended
up onstage. Luckily no one
was hurt. As the boy got out
of the wrecked car, the direc-
tor asked, "Are you trying to
break into show business?"
"No," answered the boy.
"It's just a stage I'm going
through."
