Rev. Robert Matheson told
the Children's Story "Sticky
Tape". The choir rendered an
anthem "Nowell We Sing" ac-
companied by the organist
Miss Agnes Bray.
Rev. Matheson had as his
sermon topic, "The Shining".
Just how are we to take part
in the ministry of that light
that John. The Baptist
witnesses to in (Luke 3:1-6)?
Weneedtorealize that God's
light was in the world and, was
available to those who had
faith during Old Testament
times. It was God's light that
led the Israelites to the Pro-
mised Land.
The light - Christ - that was
promised in Isaiah would take
a new form. This light would
be a brighter light to further
unfold for humanity, the
meaning of life - the meaning
of ministry.
In Philippians 3:1-6 Paul
describes how we can con-
tinue to celebrate Christ's
light in our lives. He tells us
how we can bring others to
that light and he tells us that
we need to share Christ's
message and ministry in
order to further the message
of the Kingdom to the farthest
reaches of the world.
Paul was concerned about
those churches he had had a
hand in establishing. Were
these churches becoming
social clubs or agents of
ministry'? This question was
answered when Paul found
himself ministered to when he
received "care packages"
from the church in Philippi.
He could understand now
that the people had been
educated as Christians. They
were willing to follow in his
sacrificial footsteps.
The question then becomes
"what of us?" Are we willing
to follow those footsteps, too?
Are we willing to assist others
to see the light that is Christ
so together we all may
celebrate that life that is
ours?
