The first game hied `up to
the name ."Earl Bird' as
played at ; a.m. Satur-
day morning against Mt.
Brydges. The opposition ar-
med ready to play hockey
and won 5-0. Although allow-
ing five goals: goalie :C hris
Wright appeared to be the on-
ly bright spot as he stopped
over 25 shots. •
In the second game of the
day. Parkhill Flames met the
cross town rivals Parkhill
Bruins. Facing elimination,
the Flames turned red hot
and ended up winning thle
game 8-2.
Goal scorers for the Flames

The victory sent the Flames
into Sunday's consolation
final against a team from
Goderich. •
Sunday afternoon while
most Canadians were wat-
ching the Grey Cup in front of
their TV, many local fans
were at Strathroy Arena
witnessing the most exciting
game of the. tournament,
Down 1-0 early in 'the se-
cond period, Shane Green
evened the score with only
one second left in the period.
The goal was assisted by
Brent Larmer and: Andy
Hicks.'
As the result of a scoreless
third•period the game went in-
to sudden death overtime.
Both goalies were removed to
add extra excitement.
This sudden -death period
featured many end to end
rushes and`many hair-raising
misses at both ends. Finally,
Shane Green. unassisted,
scored the winner at 7:28 of
the first overtime period.
For his efforts. each player
received a gold medallion to
wear around his neck. As
well, the team received a pla-
que and a trophy. to be
entered into the showcase, at
North Middlesex Arena for all
to see.

The Hensall Sherwoods
continued their winning ways
this week in the South Huron
hockey league with. three.
victories.
The'.Sherwoods started off
Thursday with -a 14-3 . romp
over Rostock of the North Ox-
ford league. Thursday they
edged the Centralia
.Marauders 9-8 and Sunday
they . trounced the Zurich
Buckeyes 10-2.
In the win over Rostock,
Ken Varley and Brian Maher
led the Hensall scoring with
four goals apiece. Terry
Bedard - and Jack Aikenhead
notched two.goals each and
captain Dave Kinsman and
Jamie Caldwell scored• in
single fashion.
Bryan Baker led the Sher-
woods- in assists with three
while Gary Koehler, Terry
Caldwell and Dwight .Consitt
.assisted on two goals each.
In the victory over Cen-
tralia by a score of 9-8 the
Sherwoods were forced to
come from behind with two
goals in the\last five minutes
of play.
. With the Marauders ahead
8-7. Bryan Baker scored for
the Sherwoods on a three-way
combination with Terry
Bedard and Brian Maher and
Maher potted the winner on a
pass from Dave Kinsman
with less than two minutes to
.go.
The Marauders took a 3-1
first period lead on goals by
Colin Tripp. Doug Regier and
Jim Hayter with assists being
provided by Matt Muller,
Dick. Lord and Regier.
. The lone first period Hen-
sail marker was fired by.
Bryan Baker on a pass from
Brian Maher.
The Sherwoods bounced
right back in the second
frame with five straight goals
after Matt Muller counted for
Centralia early on a three-
way effort with Mark Cronyn
and Terry 'Underhill.
Jamie Caldwell was on the
firing end of two of -the mid-,
dle game goals with Ken
Varley and Terry Caldwell
assisting. Greg Campbell,
Bryan Baker and Ken Varley
were the other: marksmen.

Jamie Cornish and Jamie
