Novice club
breaks even
The Exeter novice hockey
club gained an even split in
two Shamrock league games
this week. Both games were
away from home.
Saturday they dropped a 7-2
decision to St. Marys and Sun-
daythey bounced back to beat
Strathroy by a score of 4-1.
Jason Heywood was the
scoring star in the win over
Strathroy with a three goal
performance and he provided
the pass from a successful
shot by Ryan Lindenfield.
Heywood was also the top
Exeter goal getter in the loss
to Strathroy. Ile fired the two
goals and were both on
unassisted efforts.
Phyllis Diller says she
spent seven hours in a beau-
ty parlor once - and that was
just for an estimate.

However they played a good
game, keeping up with the
controlled Central team.
The girls were somewhat
out of control in the 'first
quarter as they lost the ball
often. It took this first eight
minutes of playing time to get
into the game. Last week's
examinations hampered
practices for the team.
Coach Terry O'Rourke said
"their timing and shooting
was off because of the lack of
practices last week but they
never lost their defence ”.
. their inability to shoot was
reflected in the first quarter
score, 12-4 for CCH.
In the second quarter the
team was hot. Their shots
started to find the mark and
their defence prevented a lot
of Catholic Central's plays.
This quarter was some of the
most inspired playing the
girls have done this season.
At one point CCH's lead had
been whittled to two points,
but the confident Catholic
Central players rallied to end
the first half 19-12.
The third quarter was
rather unfortunate for South
Huron. They were keeping up
to Catholic Central when Ma-
ja Gans went over on her take
off ankle trying to stop a shot.
After wrapping the injured
ankle Maja was back on the
court but Catholic Central had
increased its lead 28-18.
With Maja's ankle all of
South Huron's graduating
players were injured. Cyndi
• Down was visibly limping
because of a foot injury from
the Huron -Perth final game.
Knee problems have pla-
gued Lori Brand since last
year. She plans to have them
operated on soon and had
agreed to sit out this last
game of her high school
career. However at the last-
minute she decided to play
and whipped on her uniform
to start the game. '
The three graduating
players contributed greatly to
the game despite their in-
juries. It was in the minds of
the whole team that this was
their final game.
O'Rourke felt that "if Ma-
ja hadn't been injured and 1
didn't substitute the second
string in the last quarter we
would have only been down by'
10." The 20 point loss wasn't
a bad showing as Catholic
Central went on to the WOSSA
finals against 1981 OFSSA
champs Saint St. Pat's. •
Faye Geiser and Leslie
Hunter-Duvar played con -
sistenth well this season, ane;
• added seven and six points
respectively in this WOSSA
game. Maja Gans also scored
six points. Cyndi Down played
a strong defensive game.
Fist . year player Alice
Dietrich found her sport and
had an inspired game Friday
night. The whole team had a
very successful season and
should be congratulated along
with their dedicated coach
Terry O'Rourke.
