Events centered around Christmas
Members of Amber
Rebekah Lodge met at 6:30 on
Wednesday evening for their
Christmas dinner, with a very
good attendance and a
delicious meal. Noble Grand
Margaret Consitt presided
assisted by Vice Grand
Margaret Upshall. -
A donation was voted to the
Children's Welfare and also
the cheque to the United Na-
tions trip.
The Noble Grand gave a
report of the meeting held in
Clinton in November. Mrs.
Alice Bowen D.D.P. will be
the chairperson. A letter of
thanks was received from
Eric Luther, Chairman of the
C.N.I.B. A request was
received to drape the Charter
in memory of Myrtle Russell,
Past President International
Association, Rebekah
Assembly. Following the
close of the meeting a pro-
gram was enjoyed with
pianist Evelyn McBeath play-
ing for Carol singing. Hazel
Corbett gave two readings
"The Legend of Christmas"
and "Young at Heart". Lois
Jones favoured with
Christmas piano selections.
The guest speaker was Mrs.
Linda Crerar, who is
employed with the Stratford
Family Counselling Service,
in the Adult Protective Ser-
vice Program. Linda gave a
►nost interesting address on
her work in this capacity and
the 'real need for such. She
was thanked and presented
with a gift by Bertha
MacGregor.
An exchange of gifts with
"Secret Pals" followed with
Elizabeth Riley and Edith
Bell doing the distribution of
gifts.
White Gift Service
• White Gift Sunday was
observed on the Advent 2 in
Carmel Presbyterian Church.
The auditorium of the Church
was beautifully decorated for
the festive season by the
members of the Arnold Even-
ing Circle. The Sunday School
members were in attendance
at the service.
Rev. Kenneth Knight was in
charge of the service and his
sermon was on "Sharing."
Miss Donna Taylor gave a
reading "The Spirit of
Christmas". Miss Janet Hog-
garth read the Scripture,
Luke 3:10-14 and led in
prayer. Tammy Bell of the
Sunday School gave a reading.
"It Is More Blessed To Give
Than Receive." The
members of the ,Sunday
School sang, ,' "Carol,
Children, Carol" and "0
Jesus We Are Singing".
Everyone presented their
White Gifts at the tree. Ron
Fleming, Brucefield, was
guest soloist and sang "It's a
Small World" and "He is
Everything to Me" accompa-
nying himself on the guitar.
The Sacrament of the
Lord's Supper will be dispens-
ed next Sunday, December 12
at 11:30 a.m. Sunday
December 19 will be a special
Christmas service. Choir
practice is Wednesday even-
ing December 8 at 7:30 p.m.
in preparation for the
Christmas season.

service presented by the
junior choir and Sunday
church school. The theme of
the service was The Journey
to Bethlehem and illustrated
the different journeys leading
to the Christchild.
Rev. McDonald opened the
service and lit the Advent
candles. Sharon Wurm was
the narrator for the service
with seven readers assisting
her; Diane Hamilton, Stephen
McCullough. Michael
McGregor, Mark McGregor,
Gordon Hamilton, John
Rooseboom and Derick
McGee. Bill Stebbins was
Gabriel, bringing word to
Mary: Mary Jane Parsons
was Mary with Travis
Beaver as Joseph. Wayne
Scothmer, Andy Philips and
Chris Campbell were the
shepherds, with Peter Cook,
Donald Waring and Rod
Parker as the wise men:
Terry -Sue Kyle, Carrie
Stuart, Victoria Bisback and
Angela Gould very capably
played the part of the angels.
The pageant, arranged and
produced by Rev. McDonald,
had the 20 -voice junior choir
assisting, bringing the
message through song. Joyce
Pepper was the pianist, and
Belve Fuss the organist for
the service.
Tim Brock sang the solo
section and Robert Gackstat-
ter and Chris Gardiner, as
well as Mark Brock and
David Stebbins taking the
duet of two traditional carols.
The last choir number was
an invitation to the congrega-
tion to "Go tell it on the moun-
tain" with Diane Stebbins tak-
ing the solo; and the girls'
chorus taking the verses.

were Dennis Martin. Ron
Riley. Steven Corbett and
Gary Kyle. Mary .Kinsman

greeted at the door and the
kindergarten department of
the Sunday School opened the
service with A Message of
Christmas, showing the let-
ters spelling Love, Joy and
Peace.
The flowers at the front of
the church were placed in lov-
ing memory of Mr. Bert
Horton.
Piano and organ duets were
played throughout. the service
by Belva Fuss and Joyce
Pepper.

The ladies of Carmel
Presbyterian Church met on
Monday and enjoyed a
delicious potluck dinner.
Following the meal the WMS
ladies held their Christmas
meeting with vice-president
Mrs. Dorothy Taylor
presiding. She opened the
devotional with a Christmas
reading and the singing of
"Come All Ye Faithful".
Mrs. Edith Bell played the
piano. .
The Spirit of Christmas, led
. by Mrs. Taylor, and the
candle -lighting ceremony,
was taken in parts by
members all' reading
'messages. Carol singing
followed.
The roll call was answered
by your favourite carol.
Treasurer. Mrs. Bell gave a
gratifying report. Mrs.
Harvey Hyde installed the
following officers: president,
Dorothy Taylor; secretary,
Mrs. Ross Faber; treasurer,
Mrs. Kathy Bell; associate
members, Mrs. Jean Snell;
glad tidings, Mrs. P. Camp-
bell; supply secretary, Mrs.
Bert Thompson: cradle roll,
Mrs. R. Faber; literature
secretary, Mrs. P. Cmpbell;
pianist, Mrs. R. Taylor; assis-
tant, Mrs. Edith Bell.
Mrs. Bell closed with
prayer.

The "Three Links" Seniors
will hold their annual
Christmas dinner and
meeting on Tuesday
December 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Plan to attend this gathering
as a good program is being
prepared.
About two hundred and
twenty-five relatives,
neighbours and friends
assembled in the Hensall
Community Centre on Friday
evening to celebrate with Mr.
and Mrs. Bert Branderhorst,
Hensall on the 'occasion of
their twenty-fifth wedding an-
niversary.They have a family
of five; Mrs. Bev Hovius,
Hensall, Mrs. Joyce Petty,
Thedford, Rick,. Lori and
Michael at home. They also
have two grandchildren. A
most enjoyable social time
and dancing to music by "The
Boomerangs" of Lambeth
was enjoyed. They received
many beautiful gifts.
A large representation of
family members attended the
Christmas Party on Sunday in
Hensall Legion Hall spon-
sored by the Legion men and
Ladies' Auxiliary, when San-
ta Claus arrived and
presented gifts for all. In-
teresting films were shown.
The Money Doll draw will
be made on December 23rd.
Unit 4 meets
Unit 4 of Hensall U.C.W.
met on Thursday December
2nd. Mrs. Nan Britton presid-
ed and opened with a poem
"The Search". Mrs. Purdy
gave the devotional and read
the story of the Wise Men
found in Matthew chapter 2,
verses 1-11 , followed by
prayer. Mrs•. Shirley Luther
took the study and used as her
theme the . story -of , the
shepherds as told in the
gospel of St. Luke. Mrs.
Luther and Nan Britton sang
a beautiful duet "Oh the
Wonder of it all" and closed
her most interesting story
with prayer.
CALF CLUBS — For the second year, senior and junior calf clubs will be a feature
of the Hensall spring fair. Lloyd Cooper and son Scott were among the 15 seniors
and 36 juniors who picked up their calves in Hensall two weeks ago, "about the
nicest calves I've ever seen," according. to Lloyd.
