T -A photo Douglas L. Fletcher The appointment of Douglas L. Fletcher` as vice-president, prairie region, effective 1 December 1982, is an- nounced by Ronald E. Lawless, president and chief operating officer of CN Rail. Mr. Fletcher will be located in Win- nipeg. He joined CN in 1947 and has served in vuriou' capacities across Canada and on the Grand Trunk Western in the United States, most recently as chief of transportation at CN Rail head- quarters in Montreal. U pdate from O sborne Central The grade six class of Usborne Central School has had a student teacher for the last week. His name is Mr. Kyle, he lives in St. Marys and his wife owns the book store: He helped the students out in making the float for the Santa Claus parade. Hewill someday become and ex- cellent teacher and we would like to wish him luck in his studies. (- B. J. Batten) Grade one class. has been fortunate again to have a stu- dent teacher for the past two weeks. Her name is Laurell Farrow. She resides in Lucan and commutes to London to attend Teachers' College. Her last practise session was with Mrs. Brine's Grade 4 class at Exeter Public School. Mrs. Farrow has bben an en- joyable, enthusiastic teacher. We will miss her when she leaves. We hope she is suc- cessful in finding a perma- nent teaching position. We wish her happiness in her chosen career and her per- sonal life. (- The Grade One Class) The Pet Computer A computer called "The Pet" arrived at Usborne Cen- tral School on November 17 and will return to the board office for redistribution on January 7, 1983. ' This computer holds 16,000 bytes of information. You feed into "The Pet", a tape at the appropriate level and it will indicate when it is ready to begin your lesson. Math, Grammar and History are just some of the computer's specialties. All grades enjoy using "The Pet" and it is very educational. c- Theresa Van Wieren r Volleyball Friday, December 3 the girl's, team will travel to J.A.D.' McCurdy to play against the five other teams in our area. The team has definite goals which they will strive to attain. At the same time the boys will be playing at Exeter Public School. We extend an invitation to interested parents to come out and cheer on their sons and daughters. Santa Claus Parade The students council and several other interested students are preparing a float for the Santa Claus Parade Saturday. We would like to thank Laidlaw Transport Ltd., Mr. Mellick, Mrs. Seldon and all of those who helped make this a success. See you at the parade! Craig Lions entertain Craigholme residents Sy ALICE DICKENS Mrs. Ethel Phillips and Jane visited Sunday with Beverley and Stephen Richards at Port Burwell. Mr. and Mrs. George Landerkin stopped briefly in the village Friday afternoon enroute to Thedford to visit son Murray and family. Mr. Landerkin was former bank manage: here some time ago. Several ladies from the village attended the Lucan United Church Snowflake 'Bazaar Friday evening. For the Tommy Hunter television fans we'll see a Tommy Hunter special Christmas Day. Then Wednesday nights in January the Tommy Hunter show will be carried on Channel 10 CFPL. Recently the Ailsa Craig District and Lions club enter- tained the Craigholme Nurs- ing Home by having local talent, George Lee, Emmer- son MacKay, Mr. and _Mrs. Walter Douglas and Harry Shipley who contributed a number of toe -tapping music.
