Await last minute rush
It seems like only a couple
of months ago I was com-
plaining that I wasn't ready
for this.
My winter coat and boots
had just been retrieved from
the closet in the spare
bedroom. The scraper for the
car windshield was still at the
couldn't cope with the shock
that Christmas was
approaching.
I wasn't looking forward to
winter nor was 1 ready for
Christmas.
Those thoughts were racing
through my head only a cou-'
ple of months ago, weren't
bottom of the broom closet:
My Christmsa tree was in
its box standing in a corner in
the store room, and the
decorations were stashed in a
cupboard somewhere along
with the wrapping paper, rib-
bons and tags.
The Christmas cards were
in a box on a shelf in a store
downtown.
I had just concluded some
shopping for birthday
presents, and when•I looked in
my mind's file of gift ideas, I
drew a blank. My wallet was
thin, and my bank account
•
they? Surprise, surprise!
That was a year ago.
The snow has arrived. San-
ta Claus has paraded. Santa's
helpers have made public ap-
pearances at shopping malls.
Television and radio com-
mericals have exhorted us to
buy this and buy that to make
Christmas especially happy.
The countdown has begun -
only 24 days until Christmas..
Am I ready? Of course not.
But, you will no doubt be sur-
prised to learn, I'm better
prepared for Christmas and
winter than I was this time
Le Leche League
seek baby photos
La Leche League in Huron
County held its monthly
meeting November 10 in Ex-
eter at the home of Nell De-
Jonge. Women were present
'from Exeter, Brucefield,
Vanastra and Hensall. The
next meeting will be held
December 8 at 260 Churchill
Drive at Mrs. B. DeJonge's
home at 8 p.m. All former
members and women cur-
rently attending are invited to
this Christmas get together.
Please share your holiday
baking; bring a sample to the
meeting.
During the past five: years
La Leche League in . Huron
County has been in contact
with hundreds of women and
their families. Mothers of
twins, and triplets, and those
with babies hospitalized, or
mothers ill, all have found
specific information about
Their special needs through
e local group and LLL pam-
• phlets. Many of the local
group's contacts have been
made by way of the mother
calling the local volunteer
leader. Information is sent to
anyone even if they cid not at-
tend monthly meetings.
At this Christmas time La
Leche League would like to
receive a special present
from all of the mothers who
have received support from
the local group. It would be a
special way of saying thank
you by giving a photo of all
their children to add to La
Leche League's scrap book.
Women who Cannot attend the
Christmas party are asked to
send their family picture

Just as the League has
grown (now over 12,500
groups worldwide) so have
many families increased in
numbers among our local
group. It has always been a
wonderful sight to see the
first-time mother come back
to a League meeting with
another infant, much more
confident in her new role.
January'smeeting willbe a
daytime event. Please make
note of this change of time.

last year. I've even surprised
myself.
I bought a new winter coat
before the nasty weather
began, but I'm still putting off
replacing those boots that
didn't seem warm enough last
year.
A quick check of Christmas
cards and wrapping paper
left from last year show 1'11
probably have enough to do
this year. If someone receives
a present with no wrapping
paper covering the bottom of
the box, they'll just have to
realize it's what's inside
that's important.
Over the past few weeks, I
developed a list of gift ideas
by simply listening to the
hints that people dropped.
Some people give hints ac-
cidentally; others drop them
intentionally.
I began picking up a gift
now and again way back in
November. (For me, that's
extremely early), they have
been ordered c.o.d., which
means the crunch is yet to
come.
Oh well, complain though I
do, I can tolerate winter. ( I
don't have much choice).
And, I always look forward to
Christmas - a very special
time of year. Being prepared
ahead of time makes the
season even more enjoyable.
But I haven't changed that
much in a year. I know I'll
leave plenty to do at the last
minute. I wouldn't want to
miss the excitement of that
madcap last minute
Christmas rush.
