CHAMBER EXECUTIVE — A new executive was named for the Grand Bend and
area Chamber of Commerce at the annual dinner meeting in the village Friday

Chamber picks new slate,
honor dedicated workers
Bradley Page, a local
masonry contractor was
named president of the Grand
Bend and Area Chamber of
Commerce at the annual din-
ner meeting held Friday at the
Pine Dale Motel. He replaced
Mack Dunlop, owner of the
Patio Motel, who held the post
for two years.
Ellwood Lemon, Book Store
owner, continues to hold the
position of secretary manager
and Dusan Novak, local bank
manager was again named
treasurer.
Lloyd Morden, operator of
Birch Bark Trailer park, is
first vice-president and Bob
Wright who runs a Sport
Parachute club is second vice
president.
Civic representative is
Beverly Harwood, of Har-
wood Drugs. Nick Carter,
owner of the Sun and Surf •
Shops will be in charge of
advertising. Eugene Grenier,
of Rollie's Sports, and Joyce
Morden, of Birch Bark Park
will look after special events.
Local realtor, Mae Morenz
will team up with Mary
McPhail, of Baskin Robins, to
look after membership.
There was a record atten-
dance of 90 at the dinner.
Special guests Laurie Man-
nell (Mr. Sandcastle Day)
and David Bannister were
honored by the group for their
participation in promoting the
Sandcastle theme for the
Chamber'.
Mannell was presented with
a framed reproduction of the
winning Sandcastle
photograph taken by Dave
Sheppard. In presenting the
gift, Lemon praised Mannell
for his organization of the
special event. "He produced
the biggest parade we've ever
seen in Grand Bend," said
Lemon.
Theme team caatain. Mel
Douglas honored David Ban-
nister' with a framed copy of
a news story about the theme
signs which decorated lamp
standards during the sum-
mer. Bannister volunteered
his time to design and help ex-
ecute the colorful signs. Other
special guests introduced
were Mr. and Mrs. Billy
Spindler.
In accepting the post of
president, Page said, "I con-
sider it to be an honor to be
president of the Grand Bend
and area Chamber of Com-
merce. We have a super
executive."
Dunlop thanked the group
for the cooperation he had
received during his term of
office. "I must say, I've en-
joyed the two years and seen
a lot accomplished." He men-
tioned the record number of
members (108), the success of
special events, Burgerfest,
Canada Day celebrations,
Sandcastle Day and the
Farmers' Market. He paid
special tribute to Beverly
Harwood for organizing a
photo contest.

theme team had placed 40 tur-
ret waste barrels about the
village and hung 16
decorat ve theme plaques
along Highway 21.
The group has increased
contributions for advertising
for special shopping nights,
November 25 and 26. Other
contributions are, an ongoing
yearly contribution of $2,000
for recreation facilities,
cooperationwiththe village in
creating new parking, work-
ing with the Harbour Commit-
tee and the village and federal
government to upgrade the
harbour as well as working
with Grand Bend council
toward immediate upgrading
of the GrandBendAirport. The
Chamber also contributed
$200 to the Busy . Bee Day
Camp.
During the entertainment,
which followed the dinner,
. Dave Sheppard conducted a
group of four members in his
new Grand Bend singing com-
mercial. Singers were Novak,
Frank Humer, Libby Davis
and Lee Thomas. Sheppard
accompanied the group on an
organ and also played re-
quests for dancing and
singing.

The Catholic Womens
League met Tuesday evening
at the Alhambra hall with 32
members answering roll call.
Father Morrissey opened the
meeting with a mass
dedicated to Mrs. Clazina
Vandenberk who is leaving
the area for the winter
months.
President, Lia Vandenberk
chaired the meeting and
thanked the ladies for serving
lunch for the Alhambra dance
and cash draw held on Fri-
day, Nov. 12.
Thetreasurer'sreport was
given by Tillie Van Leeuwen,
and minutes of last meeting
read by Annie Baltessen. A
letter was read from the
Right to life organization ask-
ing the C.W.L. group to write
to their Provincial Parlia-
ment member opposing Dr.
Henry Morgentaler's propos-
ed abortion clinic.
Other business items were
to buy church calendars to
give to Parish families. Plans
for a day of recollection to be
held in the spring,„ and the
ladies decided to make a quilt
to be raffled. The C.W.L. will
be responsible for Meals on
Wheels during month of
March and will provide
dessert with them.
A Christmas party will be
held Dec.' 14 for C.W.L.
members and husbands. A
special offertory Christmas
mass will be held for canned
goods for needy families.
Roberta Walker reported on
attending the Deanery
meeting Nov. 3 at Brussels
Community Centre.
Guest speaker was Helene
Regier of Mount Carmel,
president of London Diocesan
C.W.L., and she spoke on elec-
tion procedures and answered
questions.
