Stories of rationing of food
and other commodities here
at homeare just that to
many of us - stories told by
parents and grandparents.
It's interesting to hear how
some families were able to
trade extra produce or labor
for something they needed.
But the difficult9of the times
loses something in the
translation. It's just hard for
us to understand.
The poppy comes to mind,
of course, at this time of year.
Different thoughts may
tome to mind for different
people. Veterans have vivid
memories they can share
with younger people.
Parents and grandparents
can share with us memories
of life here at home during the
war times.
But, what should come to
mind for everyone is freedom
- the priceless pleasure- that
unfortunately many of us
have begun to take for
granted.
We should also take time to
give thought to the hundreds
of thousands of Canadians
who gave their lives to protect
the freedom of their country,
freedom of their loved ones
and freedom of the future.
One day of the year
shouldn't be too much of a
sacrifice for us to make just
to take time to give thought to
the past.
