Ratepayers of the
Village of Lucan
Some of the projects coming up in 1983.
are:
• Expansion of sanitary sewers to pick
up parts of the village not serviced and
eliminate surcharge of sewers.
• To study recommendations and
options in a report to. resolve
basement flooding problems.
• 1t will be necessary to talk in person
and by phone to Ministry officials to
get all available grants and subsides-'
• A preliminary meeting was held
on cleanup and repair of the Whitfield
municipal drain. These are held in the
daytime.
Since 1 am now semi -retired 1 have all
the free time required to be available
to carry out duties of the 'reeve's office.
I thank all ratepayers for their support
in the past and ask for your vote on
November 8.

Three mishaps
in district
Three accidents were in-
vestigated this week by of-
ficers of the Lucan detach-
ment of the Ontario Provin-
cial Police.
Monday at. 12:40 a.m. a
vehicle driven by John Mar-
rinan, HR 2 Lucan was,
damaged to the extent of
$3,100 in a mishap on.
Highway 7, east of Elginfield.
Constable B. D. • Munro
investigated.
The same day at 9 a.m.
Constable C. S. Flemitig set
damagesat $9,000.in a single
vehicle accident on Highway
4, north of the Lucan village
limits. The driver was
Guiseppe Fiorino, London.
Vehicles driven by Gary
Brydges, lilt 3 Lucan and
Madeline Reid, Parkhill col-
lided Friday at 3:05 p.m. on
Middlesex road 16 at Highway
4 with Constable Jim Craig
listing damages at $10.
St. Patrick's
The Living Rosary and
Benediction service was held
Sunday evening at St.
Patrick's with the 'five
Glorious Mysteries illustrated
on a large screen and prayers
led by members of St. Pat's
youth group.
Nominations for Advisory
Board are in process and a
list of candidates was posted.
The finalized list will be
published in next Sunday's
bulletin and the casting of
'ballots will be held November
6 and 7. •

spiritual experience are in the
near future such as the
Engaged Encounter Weekend
. for couples considering mar-
riage will be held on
November 26-28 at Michaelite
Retreat House near London.
Cursillo Weekend for ladies
will be in Stratford,
November 11-14, and also a
Cor Weekend is set for young
ladies and men whose ages
range from 17-21 years
November 19-21 in . St.
Robert's School, London.

and Busy Buddies groups met
Thursday afternoon in the
Masonic Hall. with president
Ed Dowdall, presiding.
With ,Mary Kooy at the
piano, the group sang "O
Canada'' and observed a few
moments silence in memory
of a former member, Earl
Lewis. Mr. Dowdall thanked
the committee in charge of
the Montrose visit .for a very
successful occasion, and
donations to the Legion Pop-
py Fund and the Ladies' Aux-
iliary were agreet upon.

row, Thursday, will honor
Wyn Jolliffe on her 90th birth-
day, and Lon Phillips 'on his ,
'99th. Mrs. Jolliffe celebrates s
Friday and Mr. Phillips on
the 9th, but both are being
honoured tomorrow. Others
enjoying birthdays this week
are Ellen Brooni, Iola Goring
and Arnold Damen was wish-
ed a belated Happy Birthday.
UCW to combine
visit, baskets
Members of the Dorcas
Unit of the Lucan United
Church Women met on Tues
day afternoon inthe C.E
Wing, with Iva Hodgins
substituting .for the leader
Mabel Froats.
A hymn sing was enjoyed
with Marjorie Park at the
piano and a poem, "One Lite'
was read by Mrs. Hodgins.
The report from the "Pla-
que" committee was given by
Jean Brown and these will be
ready for the "shut-in"
baskets. All members are
asked to help deliver the
baskets this year so a visit
may be made at the same
time.
A new "visiting chart" had
been made and visitors are
asked to check in the proper
spaces when they make a
call, take flowers, etc.
Marjorie Park reported on
a trip she and Mrs. Froats
had made to the Resource
Centre saying that a filmstrip
"The Colours of Christmas"
has been reserved for the
November meeting when our
"Secret Friends" from
Meadowcrest Homes Inc.will
be our guests and will be
recognized with a small gift.
Also a Christmas playlet
was chosen for the December
meeting of the General
U.C.W. when guests from
community churches will be
present.
Names were suggested for
a 1983 Unit Leader and for a
Card Secretary.
Bernice Lockyer
distributed the "Snowflake"
Bazaar letters announcing the
date as Friday, November 26
at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Lockyer
also asked that all members
come on Monday, November
22 at 9 a.m. to help make the
Christmas puddings for the
Bazaar, bringing a measur-
ng cup and spoons, mixing
bowl and coffee cans, or
equivalent size cans.
Marjorie Park, Verna Ibbit-
on, Jean Brown and Kay
Thompson were appointed a
purchasing committee for the
Iva Hodgins suggested that,
in addition 'to cards and
crafts, it might provide more
interest in our' meetings, to
have an occasional speaker
on a topic for Seniors, a
travelogue, etc. She also read
a poem entitled "A Solilo-
quy", by Bernard,J. Patrick,
talon from one of the Ideals.
A letter was read from the
Junior D. Hockey club in-
viting all seniors of the com-
munity to attend the hockey
game tonight, Wednesday, at
8 p.m. and to make use of the
Leprechaun Hall. Those
wishing a ride should be at the
club rooms not later than 7:45
p.m.
Euchre was convened by
Elsie Gibson with winners as
follows: Lady's high, Mary
Kooy; lone hands, Florence
Hodgins; low score, Ellen
Broom; man's high, Leila Ab-
bott; . ;lone hands, Mary
Davis; and low score,
Mildred Hirtzel all playing a
man's card. Sympathy is ex-
tended to tide men of the Club.
The craft\\prize was won by
Iola Goring. Lunch was pro-
vided by Mildred and
Lawrence Hirtzel, Violet Har-
dy and Florence Hodgins.

in WI event
The London Area Women's
Institute 68th annual conven-
tion was held in St. Marys
Community Centre October
27 and 28.
Bernice Lockyer was the
Lucan .I. delegate on Wednes-
day accompanied by Mabel
Froats and Iva Hodgins, and
Thursday, Flora Robertson
represented the Branch. AI'
members reported a most in
formative and interesting
convention on the theme
"Therapy of Kindness", and
the craft table was a joy to
behold.
Following the afternoon
session on Wednesday, the
conveners of the food booth at
the I.P.M. and the treasurer,
were presented with substan-
tial gift certificates from
Birk's and interim financial
reports were given on the
booth and thesale of
cookbooks. When the final
reports are in they will be
publicized, but both money -
raising activities were most
successful.

Worship and Bible Study on
the topic "Coping with Disap-
pointment and Hurls" was
taken by Mrs. Brown giving
the group many inspiring and
helpful ideas on how to rise
above feelings of despair,
anger and frustration.
