girls basketball team is now
eight -and zero in regular
• season play as they defeated
Clinton and St. Marys this •
past week

South Intron trampled the
Shorter 'and slower 'Clinton
Team 68-13. Each team
member. contributed to the
final score.
The secotid string also`got
a lot of playing time in the
entertaining -home game ,
against St. Marys. The half
time score was 41-2 and t-outh
ended it at 61-11. Charlene
Verbeek was high scorer with
eleven points. Both Alice
. Dietr•ichand Starr.lesnev had

In a weekend tournament
up in Sault Ste. Marie the
senior team had two wins and
one: less. This is the second
year that South Huron has
participated in the Sault
tournament.
Exeter met the•host team.
Korah, in their first game Fri-
day night. Maja"Gans had 20
points while Faye Gaiser add-
ed 12 points to make the final
score 48-35.

At the end of the first quarter
Exeter was down 23-7. Coach
Terry O'Rourke pulled his.

However the drive wasn't
quite enough as the buzzer
ended the game at 47-41 for
Sir James Dunn. O'Rourke
was let -down in the semis as
Dunn went. on to win the
tournament. •
In the consolation final
South Huron defeated a junior
team from Mount SI. Joseph
46-:31. 1llaja Gans- was again
high scorer with 16 points.
Yesterday the senior girls
travelled to Saunders in Lon-
don for an exhibition game.

Marauders
win first
The South , Huron In-
termediate hockey league
season started Monday night
as .the Centralia Marauders
squeezed out a 7-6 win over
the Centralia College Saints.
The Marauders- broke • in
front quickly to lead 5-2 at the
end of the first • period,_ but,
were forced to hold off • .a
strong Saints rally in the third
period which netted three
goals. Laurie Eckhardt
scored the only first period
. College goal on a pass from
Jack Chaffe.
In the last 14 minutes of the
- opening period, Al Hartford,
Blair Hearn, Doug Regier,
Terry Underhill. and Mark
Cronyn replied for the
Marauders.
Matt Muller and Terry
Underhill each provided two.
assists while Rick Funston,
Mark Cronyn. Colin Tripp and
Blair Hearn each helped on
one score.
Jack Chaffe notched the se-
cond CCAT score late in the
first period on a pass from
Laurie Eckhardt.
In the.second.period, Perry

Marauders on passes from
Blair Hearn and captain Bill
Hodge and Malt Muller con-
verted a pass from Colin
Tripp while Kevin Giffin
scored for the Saints on

A short-handed crew of Ex-
eter juveniles managed to
out -score Strathroy by a 2-1
margin in the third period on
the latter's ice, Tuesday, to
take a single point in their
five -point contest.
The home team took the
other four points by. out-
scoring Exeter in the first two
periods and winning the game
by'a 4-2 margin.
Goalie Pete Dearing was
the big reason for the close
score as. Strathroy out -shot
the locals by a margin of four
or five to one in the.contest.
Mark Vandergunst and.
Chris Van Gerwen potted Ex-
eter tallies in the third with
assists going to Ahmad
Osman, Dave Rowcliffe and'
Brian Blackburn.
Midgets thumped •
The Exeter Midgets opened
their Shamrock season with a
7-0 loss to Goderich at the rec
centre. Wednesday.

Bantams wilt
• A goal from the stick of cap-
tain Chris Tiedeman with less
than two minutes remaining
in the third period allowed the
Exeter bantams to record a
2-1 win over Goderich.
Wednesday night at the South
Huron Rec Centre.
Terry Zachar put Exeter on
the scorebdard at 9:59 of the
opening session on the three-
way passing effort with Sean
Whiteford and Ron Louckes.
Chris Sideris evened the
score for Goderich in the mid-
dle frame and Sean Whiteford
and Terry Zachar provided
the assists for Tiedeman's
winning goal late in the third

Pee wees lose
Four goals in the third
period allowed Goderich to
score an OMHA win over the
Exeter pee wees at the South
Huron Rec Centre Wednesday
night. '
The Exeter club coached by
Jack Chipchase failed to hang
onto a first period 1-0 lead
which they extended to 2-1 by
the end of the second period.
Steve Anderson notched the
first period Exeter marker on •
an unassisted effort and
Jonathan O'Connor converted
a pass from Jeff Chipchase in

Steve Anderson put his Ex-
eter club ahead 3-1 at 6:30 of
the third period on a play set
up by Jeff Dalrymple only to
have Goderich come back
with two goals tired by Dave
Brown and Scott Garrow.
Anderson completed his hat
trick performance at 10:27
again on a solo dash to put Ex-
eter in front 4-3.
In the last four minutes of
play, Greg Alcock tied the
score for Goderich and Gar -
row with his third of the night
• notched the winning score.
