Times-Advocate, 1982-10-06, Page 131 Established 60 years ago BrinsI.y Unifed Church celebratos A memorable day for Brinsley United Church, took place Sunday, Sept. 26. As well as being a regular an- niversary service, it was a celebration of 60 years of fellowship in this church, although the actual dedica- tion services were held January 22, 1922. Three ser- vices were held that day, with inspiring messages prepared for each one. Guest speaker for this special occasion, was Mrs. Bea Ash, the new pastor. With Douglas Lewis at the organ, the choir was strengthened by members from each charge. HEBER DAVIS Mrs. Ina Dickins, St. Thomas passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, Sept. 30th in her 93rd year. Many friends from a distance visited in this com- munity, Mr. and Mrs. Don Abbott and Mr. and Mrs Dunlop, Manitoulin with Mr: and Mrs. Jim Barker. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Johnston, Owen Sound visited with Mr. -and Mrs. Hugh Davis. Mrs. Earl Atkinson, Lucan and Mrs. Heber Davis spent four days at Lion's Head. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Davis were guests Saturday at the Atkinson -Tapp wedding at Mt. Zion United Church and the reception which followed. Mrs. Heber Davis attended Thanksgiving Service at St. John The Evangelist Church, London and was dinner guest with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Steele, Sherry and John. Sherry was observing her tenth birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ab- bott, RR 1 Centralia, enter- tained the family and friends of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hodgins to dinner, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carroll's golden wedding. Guests were Mrs. Lela Ab- bott, Lucan, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carroll,; Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Mullins and Mrs. Walter Phillips, London, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Tindall, Wiarton, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Davis, RR 1 Lucan, and Mrs: Madeline Tindall, Listowel. Peter Snell, accompanying himself on the guitar, rendered two musical numbers "Try a little Kind- ness" and "Just a Closer Walk with Thee". There were two dedications - the Cross on the Communion Table in memory of the late Elmer F3ulder, was presented by Jack Hodgson, and the loud speaker system, donated by Cecil Ellwood, was presented by Mrs. George Prest. Several pictures were col- lected of former members and adherents, that had helped in the building of the church. These were displayed for everyone'sviewing.Some of the former ministers were also included. Members were very for- tunate in obtaining a picture of Rev. R.A. Brook, .who through his co-operation and faithfulness made the building of Brinsley Methodist Church, or Brinsley United Church, as it is known today, became a reality. . The plants on the Commu- • nion table were placed there by the U.C.W. in loving tribute to all those who were responsible for the building, that we, a future generation might carry on the work of our Lord and Saviour. The flowers were later donated to the two oldest liv- ing members that were active 60 years ago. Mrs. Mary Hodgson, Lucan and Cecil Ellwood, London. A delicious' pot luck dinner was served following the service. A Service of Baptism has been arranged for Sun. Oct. 31. All interested persons are asked to contact the Pastor as soon as possible. An interview with parents and/or sponsors is essential prior to baptism. Shipka girl. wins at fair By MRS. HUGH MORENZ Shipka Quite a number of area folks attended the Interna- tional Plowing Match at Lucan last week. Kathy Russell has passed her hairdrelsing and barber- ing course at Marzel Beauty school in London. Don, Sharon and Jamie Baker, and Mrs. Ortha Baker spent the weekend in Detroit with Sandra and Tony Regier, Chris, Heather and Jillian. ' Recent visitors with Oscar and Laura Miller in Dashwood have been cousins Mr. and Mrs. Norris McEwen, Goderich, a niece and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Saveri, Win- nipeg, Manitoba, Mr. and Mrs. Provost, Edmonton, Alberta, and Mr. and Mrs. Art Ferris of Strathroy.
