The • treasurer was quite uncooperative in answering any other questions and would not even let me know where I could see the birds or who was raising them. In a later interview with Conservation Officer Jack Overholt, I found that there was .a provincial guideline, which stated each regulated townshlp was to release a minimum of 200 birds. I also questioned him about the licence itself and found that,,contrary to local belief, if you had a Hay licence you could not hunt pheasants or rabbits inStephenor Usborne townships. Usborne and Stephen townships are together on one licence and may be jointly hunted but on this licence you are not allowed to hunt rab- hits in Hay. pheasants either. The South Huron Pheasant \ Committee has increased the Stephen-Usborne licence this year to $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents. Exeter residents are considered residents of Stephen-Usborne. These township licences are required in addition to your small game licence. Also don't forget your migratory game bird permit if you plan to hunt ducks or geese. These are available at Post Offices only. Stephen-Usborne licences are available at Rollies, - Grand Bend; Country Cor- ners, Mr. Carmel;Triebner's Gun Shop, Exeter; Stan Frayne's Exeter; and Kirkton Markets as well as Stephen township office. Hullet township will receive pheasant releases of between 800 and 900 birds all at Zone "B" of the Hullet Wildlife Management Area. These birds will be releas- ed in weekly lots for ten weeks starting next week. No township licence is re-, quired there ut,i. this year hunter numbers will be con- trolled so getting to hunt on Saturday may be a problem. A leaflet has been drawn up and is available with all the information about the con- trolled hunting. In the Waterfowl zone this year only one pond is flooded and is 90 acres in size. There is a parking lot there with six parking spots. They will be all that is allowed daily access into the area. The parking spots are to be filled on a first come first serve basis with only two hunters per car. That's only 12 hunters allowed into the area. Hunters will be expected to b ring their own blind and will only be allowed to set up in the area their parking spot designates. Parking anytime is pro- hibited anywhere within the management area except designated parking Lots and this includes roads and other allowances. Parking will not be permit- ted in parking lots between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. In Zone B the upland area there are more parking lots but the same rules apply. Parking in a zone B lot allows you to hunt anywhere in that zone which also includes some water for those in- terested in ducks. Hunting the construction zone is not permitted. In the Waterfowl Zone, you may hunt only the area within ten metres of your stake number chosen by your park- ing spot. A minimum of two hunters per stake is all that will be allowed. In this zone only migratory birds are legal to hunt. Hunters must bring their own blind, cutting vegetation is prohibited. Some stakes require boats to reach which are not sup- plied. Motors are also prohibited. Your gun must remain unloaded and encased on route to and from your stake as you are not allowed to hunt anywhere except that numbered area. They recommend you bring a good flashlight. In Zone "B" the uplands you may' hunt any open season game except raccoons at night. There are bobwhite quail in the area but there is current' ly no season and they are pro- tected so don't allow dogs to repeatedly harass them or shoot these small gamebirds. Bow hunting is permitted on Sunday during the open seasons. Also of note in Hullet, if you take a pheasant or any other bird with a band be sure to turn it in as it will aid future management in the area. North Midd.
