Paul Van Gerwen recorded
a scere of 37 to win low gross
honours in "A" flight during
, Tuesday's men's night at the
Ironwood golf course. Don
Cowan was best in net with a
33.
In "B" flight Rick Banks
was the low gross winner with
a 41 and low net was taken by
Mark Cronyn at 33.
Ted Johnson with a 45 was
tops in low gross in "C" flight
and Mery Cudmore tooklow
net with a 34 and Roy Hunter
and Ray Heywood were the
gross and net winners with
scores of 49 ' and
respectively.
Three tied
at Kippen
Harrison Schoch, Jim Darl-
ing and Terry Celdwell fired
identical scores of 25 to Lead
the regular gun shoot at the
Kippers club, Tuesday night.
Next with scores of 24
apiece were Jack Bell, Bert
Mahaffey, Jack Mills, Lloyd
Venner, Al Kyle, Dan Crerar
and Jamie Caldwell. Com-
pleting the scores were Glen
J Mogk, Jim Butcher 23, Grant
McGregor and Mery Batkin
21, Bob Baker 19 and Richard
Smith 16.
Irish in Exeter, Thursday
Fastball In playoffs
The first round of playoffs
in the Southwestern Fastball
league has been completed
with Nairn ousting Sylvan
three games to one, Lucan
Irish downing last years
league champs the Astros
three straight, Poplar Hill
downing West Corners in
three games and Exeter
Saveway ousting Lieury
Seniors three games to one.
The semi finals will see
Nairn and Poplar Hill play
while Exeter Saveway will
meet the Lucan Irish.
Both series are best of five
affairs. Saveway travelled to
Lucan last night, Tuesday,
while Thursday the Irish will
be in town. Sunday the third
game will go in Lucan and the
fourth if necessary will go in
Exeter at 9 p.m., Tuesday and
the fifth in Lucan Thursday.
AU games are scheduled for
9 o'clock. Fan support is
greatly needed.
Saveway defeat
Lieury Seniors
. After dropping the opening
game to Lieury 7-4 in extra in-
nings .the Exeter Saveway
crew pulled together to play
some tough ball.
Dan Heywood was the herp
in game two in Lieury. With
Saveway down a game the
hard throwing, right hander
shut down the Lieury bats on
three hits while striking out 12
batters.
Saveway opened the scor-
ing in the first as Willie Lamb
singled and scored on Gary
Skinner's single. They added
another run in the second as
--Dan Heywood walked and
came around to score.
With the score tied 2-2 in the
fifth, the Saveway bats came
alive as Gary McMaster,
Gary Skinner and Doug Todd
all singled and Paul
McKnight hit a sacrifice fly.
They added their final three
runs in the seventh as Gary
Skinner doubled, Doug Todd
singled and John Gilespie and
Doug Pearson both singled.
In game three strong pit-
ching and a two run home run
by Paul McKnight was the
difference as Saveway edged
Lieury 4-2.
Saveway jumped out on top
1-0 in the first Willie Lamb
reached on an error and came
around to score. Gary Skinner
doubled fn the third and came
in to •Gore on Paul
McKniOlie long blast to left
centre field
Gary Skinner walked and
came around to score their
final run.
Doug Todd picked up the
win , th Dan Heywood get-
ting the save. Todd went 6 in-
nings and allowed four hits
while striking out nine
batters.
Glen Thompson took the
loss for Lieury allowing only
four hits and striking out
seven batters.
Gary Mehiaster's home run
in the top of the eighth with
one out was the winning run
as Saveway eliminated
Lieury with a 4 1 win.
Lieury jumped into the lead
in the first inning as Les
Drury and Stan Lovie singled.
Saveway knotted the score
in the second on Dan
Heywood's sacrifice fly.
The score rgmained 1-1 un-
til the eighth when McMaster
crushed a pitch over the left
field fence.
Doug Todd followed with a
tri a and Paul McKnight
sins to bring him in, Dan
Heood reached on a walk
and an Hodgins singled in
the final run.
Glen Thompson and Eric
Bulgin toiled for Lieury alloV'-
ing 10 hits while striking out:
two batters.
Brian Hodgins picked the
win for Saveway allowing
four hits while striking out 12

LAWN BOWLING
Competition was keen in
Saturday's jitney at the Ex-
eter lawn bowling club as
Leone Brock and Ernie Chip -
chase tied for first place with
identical scores of two vic-
tories, aggregate of 28 .and
plus of one
The next deadlock was for
third spot with Ernie Ross
and Gertrude Hamilton all
even with aggregates of 26
and plus of two.
Morley Wadsworth record-
ed an aggregate of 24 good for
fifth place and Lillian Pym
and Remus Marsman were
next all even at 21 and Wilfrid
Shapton and Alvin Pym com-
pleted the prize list with equal
scores of 18.
LADIES GOLF
Jean Smith and Shirley
Davidson were the hidden
score winners in' Tuesday's
regular ladies play at the Ex-
eter Golf and Country,Club.
Beryl Elgie. required 18
putts to complete her round
and Wyn Galloway needed the
most shots on number six.
