was in the elder Shaw's posi-
tion of Mayor or father.
The Mayor told the first
round draft choice of the
Quebec Nordiques that
anything good he does will be
good for the town, while con-
versely anything bad will be
detrimental to the town.
"Speaking as Mayor or
father?" was an audible ques-
tion from the gallery which

Ross Fisher reported that the
drain needed a thorough
overhaul, cleanup, and
replacement and relocation of
some culverts, council asked
for an engineer's report and
estimate on a complete
overhaul, instead of continual
patchwork. The Stanley
delegation were in total
agreement with Hay
township's proposed course of
action.
A court of revision was call-
ed to hear from the evening's
third delegation, Howaid
Datars and Harold Hendrick,
who were there to appeal
their assessments in the
engineer's report on branch C
of the Datars-Miller drain for
draainaagge costs oework to be
Alternate • ' fpr part of
the drain were •. • _, , and
the court of revision was ad-
journed until a later date to
allow the engineer time to
marshal more facts and
figures on suggested changes.
Before the arrival of the
delegations, council had at-
tended to other business, in-
cluding .abandoned
cemeteries. When township
clerk Joan Ducharme receiv-
ed a letter from the Ministry
of Consumer Relations about
the sorry state of the old
Wesleyan Methodist
cemetery on Highway 84, she
checked back in the
township's bylaws and
discovered ownership of the
abandoned cemeteries had
reverted to Hay township in
1976.
In order,to follow proper
procedurefor proceeding
with some type of restoration
or renovation, the ministry
will send the township a
model bylaw. Council must
then send back detailed plans
of what they would like to do,
build a cairn, move all the
stones to the centre of the
cemetery, or fence in the pro-
perty. After ministry ap-
roval, a bylaw would be
ssed and work could begin.

pa
"If we leave it the way it is,
there won't be any stones left
up in 10 years", Deputy
Reeve Lionel Wilder remark-
ed, citing the danger of future
vandalism.
Ross Fisher asked council
to consider buying its own
sprayer, as spraying costs
this year have amounted to
almost $800. plus $1,400 for
chemicals. He was asked to
prepare a report.
Council also agreed to the
purchase of a base radio to be
installed in the township of-
fice. All acknowledged it will
be of great assistance, allow-
ing Fisher to keep in touch
with his men. and the office to
contact the superintendent
when he is out on the road.
The only stipulation was that
the cost must be kept under
$1,000. Fisher will bring
prices to the next meeting.
