Times-Advocate, 1982-04-28, Page 17Elect new officers Kippen East WI By MRS. RENA CALDWELL Kippen East W.I. held their annual meeting at the home of Mrs. James Drummond, Exeter on April 20. The meeting began with a boun- 1.-. tiful pot luck dinner. Quilting friends and Mr. and Mrs. Reg Finkbeiner and Michael were guests of honour. Mrs. Drummond con- ducted the meeting and gave a reading on the "Oyster". Mrs. Finkbeiner who is of Ukrainian descent and who learned the art of coloring the Easter eggs from her grand- mother demonstrated while Mr. Finkbeiner assisted by Michael gave the history of the art. Easter eggs are not mere- ly pretty eggs, the egg tells a story and is symbolic of the resurrection Of Christ. To pro- perly color an egg takes about eight hours. Reports were given by treasurer Mrs. Vern Alder - dice, for Agriculture and Canadian Industries Mrs. Campbell Eyre, for Citizen- ship and World Affairs, Mrs. Robert Bell, for Education and Cultural Affairs, Mrs. Robert Kinsman, for Family and Consumer Affairs, Mrs. Alex McGregor for Sunshine, Mrs. Stewart Pepper, P.R.O. Mrs. Harry Caldwell, for Resolutions Mrs. Vern Alder - dice who also read the Story of Grace Drummond's Cham- pionship Quilt. Mrs. Drummond thanked everyone for the co-operation during the past year. Mrs. Wm. B M conducted the elec- tion of _officers. Mrs. Robert Kinsman brought in the report of the nominating com- mittee which was accepted. Mrs. Alex McGregor gave Current Events and courtesy remarks. Meeting closed with Mary Stewart Collect. Sympathy of the communi- ty is expressed to Mrs. Al Hoggarth in the sudden death of her father Fred Ashard in England during the past week. Mrs. Hoggarth flew home April 20 to be with her mother and family. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ron Denys on the birth of a daughter. 4-11 club • Fourth meeting of Kippen Dough Girls was held at the Hoornaert's home at 7 p.m. The girls discussed nutrients Times -Advocate, April 28, 1982 hears about Ukranian Easter customs and started organizing their party. They then made whole grain English Muffins which were enjoyed by all Members. At the fifth meeting the girls learned how toshape speciality rolls. They made two batches of sweetbread and from these hatches shaped hot dog buns, bow knot daisies, spiral twists and kolacks. All the girls enjoyed the results. The sixth meeting was the - FIRE POSTER AWARDS - Winners the Crediton and Huron Park fire departments were: (from left) Leanne Glavin, third: Christina Nirta, first and Rosanne Dietrich, second. Also shown is Steve Crawley of the Huron Park detachment. The girls were trophy winners in the girl's division at Mt Ce I school iri a file prevention poster contest sponsored by arm . party. Each girl brought a guest and was reponsible for .bringing a special dish. Everyone wore a crazy hat. It was a great success. At the seventh 'and final meeting the Achievement Day presentation was organized. Bread -making in- formation was reviewed by playing a game. HEBER DAVIS Sunday afternoon Holy Communion service at St. Patrick's church was held in the Parish Hall due to the painters still working week- days on the interior of the church.. Rev. Greg Smith was in charge of the service. Assisted by by Mrs. Patti Dobbs in the children's songs. Mr. and Mrs, Jack Dickins, Exeter, Mr. and Mrs: Arthur Abbott, Cen- tralia, and Mr. and Mrs. Maurice MacDonald, Lucan were Friday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Greenlee. Mrs. Rob MacGillivray and Courtney spent Friday afternoon with their grand- mother Mrs. Mary Davis, Lucan. ' Two of Marylou Tindall's girl friends from Western University spent Friday night with her at the farm. Mrs. Marguerite Greenlee has the ACW group quilt in at her house. Ladies please come and bring your thimbles. The Fred Dobbs family attended the Kiwanis Festival at Centennial Hall, London on Monday and Tuesday evening. Fred Jr. is a member of the Medway Dance Band, which won in their class. Mr. Gote Wennerstrom spent several days in London this past week. Mrs. Earl Atkinson, Mrs. Mabel Needham and Mrs. Lela Abbott, Mrs. Mary Davis were Saturday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Maurice MacDonald,•Lucan.
