South Huron's senior
soccer team opened their
season, Thursday with a 1-0
home -field exhibition loss to
Huron -Perth defending
champions Madill Mustangs.
The team opens its regular
season this afternoon when
the Panthers will host St.
Marys at 3:30.
The Ione goal came on the
first shot of the game after a
mixup by the South Huron
defense gave Madill the
clear shot they
wanted. The remainder of
the. game presented South
Huron . with many op-
portunities to tie and even
win the match but the
Panthers couldn't capitalize
on these.
Despite the loss, coach
Damian Solomon,' was
pleased with the team's play
' and looks forward • to a
successful season. "With
twenty-two players, this
team is the largest in our ten
year history. We have a
strong nucleus returning
from last year and hopefully
we can build on. that this
year." said Solomon. Last
year, several close lasses
just prevented the team
from reachingthe playoffs.
Despite thunseasonally
cold and wet) weather this
spring, which prevented the
team from moving practices
outside until recently,
Solomon is "looking forward
to an interesting season.
Friday, the team travels to
Strafford Northwestern to
face the Huskies.
Friday Susan. McClure ran to
wins in both the 100 and 200
metre races and third place
in the 400 metres. Irene
Dietrich was fourth in the
midget girl's 800 metres.

senior girls 100 metresprint.

third place finishes, in-
cluding one record. at the
Forest City meet,
the largest high school track
meet in Ontario, besides
OFSAA, with 2,000 entries
from 56 schools.
McClure broke the existing
junior girls 300 metre hur-

than a second, clocking a
