Times-Advocate, 1982-04-21, Page 17LEGION RENOVATIONS COMPLETED — Extensive renovations to the Hensall Legion hall have been completed. Above, cutting the ribbon at Friday night ceremonies are Murray Traquair, Legion president Iry Ferris, Auxiliary represen- tative Minnie Noakes and Grant McClinchey. Tuckersmith may consider its own utility commission. Tuckersmith Township council set up a two-man com- mittee, Reeve Bob Bell and councillor Jim Papple, to meet with the four people who submitted applications for the part-time position of tile drainage inspector at last Tuesday night's (April 6) regular meeting at Vanastra. The committee is to meet .with the four and return to council with recommenda- tions. Council decided to. advertise for applicants at a recent meeting after Mr. Pap- ple, who had ,been fulfilling the function, suggested the ' workload was becoming more than he could adequately handle. He noted there is little new happening in Tuckersmith in the im- mediate future in relation to the authority, more to the south at Port Franks or to the west at Bayfield. Mr. Sillery also rioted it has been a good spring for the conservation authority flooding -wise. Council was unanimous -in refusing a request from Mrs. B.R. Thomson for permission to put a mobile home on her property at lot 18, concession 3, because approval would have meant two residences on Rae lot contrary to the township's zoning bylaws. Councillor Bob Broadfoot noted the township has a trailer park for these purposes. Council requested clerk - treasurer Jack McLachlan get more details on the amended 1982 estimates of ex- penditures of the Seaforth Fire Area, and decided it will come to a decision on this budget at a later meeting. However the 1982 proposed budget for the Clinton Fire Area was accepted as read and carried. Mr. Broadfoot, council's representative to this fire area, noted proposed capital expenditures were relatively high because an old gas furnace is shot and new one required, also a new water tank is needed for the firehall. Two tenders were received and opened%or the McIntosh municipal . drain, but the lowest was invalid and re- jected because the tender was not accompanied by a 10 per- cent deposit as required. So it went to Brickman Drainage Ltd. of Sebringville for $4,450 to install the tile, plus $30 for. each connection with work to begin in July or August; depending on conditions, and to be completed by the end of September. The tender was accepted subject to Canadian National approval, because the railway owns some of the land which will be affected by the work. Tile drainage bylaws for the McCowan drain, and Datars-Logan drainage works were carried. Councillor John Brownrjdge suggested the township investigate establishing its own public utility commission for Vanastra, which might ease some of the problems now connected with the Vanastra Water and Sewage Depart- ment run by the Ministry of the. Environment that have concerned council for some time. The idea seemed to in- terest other council members, CUSTOM KITCHENS AND VANITIES QUALITY HARDWOOD CABINETS from ade by EXPERT DESIGN SERVICE NEW CONSTRUCTION OR REMODELING John Patterson 482-3183 BALL-MACAULAY LIMITED SEAFORTH CLINTON HENSALL 527-01910 4824405 262-2418 but Mr. Broadfoot suggested that since council's term ex- pires later this year it might be more proper for the new council to - investigate something of this magnitude. but council decided an in- vestigation might get ridof some of the groundwork and would not be a commitment, and decided to delay a deci- sion on a possible investiga- tion for two or three months until council's current respon- sibilities with the township's secondary plan have been taken care of. Correspondence was received from Koma Boats of Vanastra concerning the "un- sightly" condition of Joe Haskett's property between the boat company and the township offices. The problem is apparently a recurring one, so council decided to send a "strongly worded letter" to Mr. Haskett with the in- vestigation of a property stan- dalyds bylaw as a next possi- ble step. Council also -accepted and carried a rate increase an- nounced by the Clinton PUC for water from 70 cents to 90 cents per '1,000 gallons. Although discussion indicated council isn't pleased with this latest increase in rates, which amounts slightly less than 30 percent, it felt there was lit- tle it could do about it. a Council set a new rental rate for its grader of $30 per p hour at its last meeting, not f $24 as incorrectly reported in f a recent edition of The Huron Expositor. g Oars Seniors hold pot luck Legion opens redecorated hall A large attendance was present for the openin ceremonies of the news decorated rooms at the Hen- sall Branch of the Canadian Legion.
