The Exeter men's
recreation tastball league
met on Aprll 15 and plans are
underway for the 1982
season.
Specuhitlon runs high, in
that a possible .12 teams will
compete to this year's
league. The Exeter league is
a well established recreation
loop that will again host a
summer tournament for rec
teams from Zurich,
Seaforth, and Clinton.
Details for the year will be
finalized Thtssday, April 22
at the Exeter Public School
library.
In the general business,
rule changes dominated the
scene. New to- scenario
will be the us of a
designated hitter.
Other proposed changes
were voted down including
importing pitchers from
other leagues and the
omission of the "two inning
rule" which guarantees all
recreation players par-
ticipation.
In a recreation league it
was felt that guarantee of
participation was essential
and the reason for the
existence of a rec league.
Batting helmets are no
longer mandatory but each
team must provide helmets
for players and it is hoped
players will use them.
The appointment of an
executive resulted in Clare
Fergusson remaining as
president, Mike Soldan, vice
president, Brian Beer second
vice, Al Lovell, secretary
and Van Tuckey as
treasurer.
Dan Kerslake accepted the
position of public relations
and will endeavour to report
standings and develop
publicity for the league.
It Is hoped more residents
of Exeter and area will take
advantage of some very
inexpensive and entertaining
evenings when • the umpire
calls 'play ball'.

in Lucan.
