Mission With Faith and
Justice was the theme of a
special event held in Main
Street United Church,
Mitchell, for the Huron -
Perth Presbyterial of United
Church Women.
A rousing sing -song was
led by Lois Grose and Mary
Edighoffer, from
Thamesville Church ac-
companied by Barb Jef-
ferson at the piano.
President, Grace Pym, RR
1, Centralia, gave the
opening meditation and Jean
Hoffmeyer, Mitchell
welcomed everyone.
The first speaker of the
evening was Mrs. Kim
Decker, Anselma House,
Kitchener, which is a Home
for Battered Women in
situations of domestic
violence. She said one In ten
women are at, sometime
beaten or subjected to
violence by their husbands
or who they live with.
Anselma House which
means"divine protection" is
a temporary place of refuge
for these women and
children who are forced to
leave their homes on short
notice and have nowhere else
to go.
Anselma House operates
on grants from the Region of
Waterloo. In 1981 they gave
shelter to 177 women and 214
children but had to turn 200
women away because of lack
of space. At present they can
accommodate 6-8 women at
one time but sometimes had
12-14.
Recently they have bought
another house next door
which will accommodate 15
women. Victims stay at
Anselma House for up to 5

selors, lawyers, etc. for

The 'second speaker was
John M. Skinner, Q.C. of
Stratford, who spoke on
"Family Law." He stated
"Family Law" is a broad
term covering many topics.
Lawyers are able to advise
women as to their rights but
are not marriage counselors.
This part should be left to
social workers and
clergymen.
The new Family Law
Reform Act introduced in
1978 has put men and women
on equal footing - family
assets may be split equally
but also the debts may be
split down the middle. Mr.
Skinner stated that legal
advice must be individual.
He advised anyone in such a
situation to get good legal
advice - rely on it - act upon
it. He also talked of the
importance of women to
make a will.
The evening closed with
worship taken by the ladies
of West -Huron, This was
based on Micah 6:6-8. Elsie
Williams, Gowanstown gave
courtesy remarks followed
by the benediction by Rev.
Don Pletch, of Mitchell.
During the evening books
for sale were on display. Also
there was a period of
exercise and refreshments. Jean Brine, Stratford.

Lingerie is modelled Christian Development - Shirley Hackett Lueknow,
for fellowship group
Ladies Commun
Fellowship was well-atten
on.Thursday, evening 'in the
town hall. •
Soloist Juli Knip sang two
lovely Easter songs about
Christ's resurrection .
The feature of the evening
was a special presentation of
lingerie by Shirley Perry,
modelled by her family and
friends. There were many ex-
clamations of delight from the
audience . at the beautiful
creations designed and sewn
by Shirley and her daughters.
Shirley closed her part of
the evening with a quotation
from the Bible, "Man looketh
on the outward appearance,
but the Lord looketh on the
heart." she exhorted those
present to not only care about
how they look at home around
those most important to
them, but also to be sure that
the the inner beauty that God
ity gives a woman is allowed to
ded develop in them.
Guest speaker, Joan Hut-
chinson of London continued
on with this theme very
beautifully. She shared many
, moments of her own life as
she compared us to clay in the
Master Potter's hands. She
spoke of a certain type of clay
used in eastern countries that
if worked enough by the pot-
ter became transparent in the
kiln.
She said that as Christian
women we need to allow God
to work with us through The
difficult circumstances in our
lives so we can become
useful, transparent people.
The May meeting of the
Ladies. Community
Fellowship will be changed to
the second Thursday evening
of May. The theme will be
gardening with special
speaker Mrs. Vangi Warren,
wife of Rev. Doug Warren of
London.
Books will be available for
sale and 81 admission. Plan to
come to the Exeter town hall
"upper room" May 13 at 7:45
for an evening of inspiration
and friendship.

MacNeil of Dungannon told
the audience that her club
was the newest in the zone,
having been chartered last
October with 12 members.
"Our biggest success seems
to be catering, especially to
our Kinsmen," she said, and
so they would, be pursuing
that idea for the near future.
They will soon be assisting a
senior citizen's group which is
developing in their area.
Clinton president Betty
Dalzell said an appeal for
funds for a hospital expansion
resulted in the Kinettes
organizing a fashion show
with the help of a member
who owns a London clothing
shop andhasconnectionswith
some models. A sum of 81,100
was eventually raised.
Finally Mary Loucks
reported for the host club. She
said she remembered trying
to get out of her commitment
to put on a skit at the 40th an-
niversary ' celebration
because she and her co -actors'
were not at all prepared, but
it worked out just as well. She
reminded her fellow Kinettes
that beginning' this July, the
Heritage i)ays festivity in Ex-
eter would be an annual
charity drive involving all
service clubs in town, and it
was important to have high
attendance to make it work.
The Zone Bulletin Award
went to Joyce Thomson of St.
