TREE TRIMMING - Giant evergreen trees were cut down at this Goshen Street house
in Zurich Monday. The owner should have cut them in the fall and wouldn't have
had to buy firewood all winter.

Too soon
I wonder if a year -and -a-
half is far enough down the
road to have a class reunion?
Not that our school group
ever needed an excuse to get
together to drink beer ---we
once held a class meeting, to
discuss how overworked we
were, in a bar-- but a get-
together "of the class"? To
reminisce? To rest on our
' laurels and brag about the
new house and what college
are kids are at?.
Try me in ten or fifteen
years. But we did it anyway.
I think there comes a point
in reliving old times when the
old time has been relived once
too often. It is time to give
memories a rest, to let them
mellow and improve.
The same old stories we
had bantered back and fourth
through three years of college
got a dusting off and we all
got to hear them yet again.
Someone always quips that
the events will be a chapter in
their biography and while this
may be so, I suspect rather it
will be the basis of a novel or
two first.
About 30 aspiring jour-
nalists were thrown together
in a rather isolated college
course and ten were squeez-
ed out the other end. Several
flunked out; several simply
disappeared; there were two

Decorate for party
The residents of the Maple
Woods Apartments held a St.
Patrick's day party recently,
and the common room was
decorated with Shamrocks.
The evening was spent
singing Irish songs and other
old familiars, and was
hosted by Lavina Miller and
Tilly Zi11er.
Lunch consisted of cheese
and crackers and some
delicious squares.

One hundred and four year

Thursday and was laid to

She was a great little old

But what is to be expected

display a feeling of solitude --
of going it alone.
It was nice to see others in
a similar situation. I could see
how my classmates were cop-
ing and what solutions they
found to get by.
The get-together, the re-
union, didn't answer any
questions about the past nor
offer solutions for the future,
but I felt touched.
Its time to move on from
college to other equally good
events: living in the past
rekindles old hurts as well as
the good times and each of us
can no longer depend on the
others for help either in work
or psychological matters.
Our time together as a
group is over, by choice or
happenstance we've moved
on.
Somewhere burning in one
of us is the novel, the true
story of the times we all liv-
ed through. I'll read it when
it comes out and I'll probably
attend the next reunion in
another year -and -a -half; but
I'm reminded of an old song:
"I love you, but we're
strangers when we meet."
In the six or seven years
since the moonlandings, the
North American press seems
to have forgotten all the tricks
it learned covering space
shots.
Perhaps the astronauts
themselves have forgotten the
techniques of hosting intimate
get-togethers with millions of
TV viewers to explain the
workings of their ship.
From what I saw of space
shuttle coverage this week,
the highlight of the mission
was a backed -up toilet.
Maybe budgetary restraint
has overworked the men and
wouldn't allow NASA time to
show the public what was I
happening up there. It seems
to me a dash of the old
showbiz --such as the Apollo
Christmas . show from the
moon, live coverage of a
space walk, the astronauts
playing in zero gee, or even a
scripted remark about the
size of steps --would enliven
earth -bound interest in the
space shuttle.
It probably wouldn't hurt
public interest either, in
diverting budget money away
from arms and into useful
projects like utilization of
outer space.
