Only two percent of
Usborne's roll was unpaid
last year, he said.
Grand Bend clerk Louise
Clipperton said the village's
arrears in 1981 were *42,034,
or eight per cent, compared
to $18,501 for 1980, or four per
cent. The village has four
properties eligible for sale,
she said.
Zurich clerk Sharon Baker
said the village's arrears
rose from 85,523 in 1980, to
$9,281 the following year, an
increase from four per cent
to six per cent of the roll.
Two are
registered rforr sale sbut will
very likely be recovered, she
felt.
Biddulph Township's
assistant tax. collector
Catherine Haskett said ar-
rears for 1981 stood at
$87,795, or just under 10 per
cent of the total roll. Unpaid
taxes for 1980 stood at $31,900
in December last year but
she could not give a percen-
tage figure. There are no tax
sales scheduled this year.
Hensel! tax collector
Elizabeth Oke said the
village's arrears in 1960 were
$10,404, and *12,724 in 1981, or
a steady 3 per cent of the
total tax roll. Three proper-
ties are now registered for
sale.
Under The Municipal Act,
properties must be in ar-
rears for three years before
municipalities can register
them for sale. The owner has
one full year from the date of
registration to pay the debt
and reclaim his title. Ar-
rears can also be charged in-
terest at the prime lending
rate.
