In a tremendous series
with a number of games
going into overtime, the Irish
disposed of the Braves and
qualified to ,meet Mitchell.
As it turned out, the final
series against the Mitchell
Hawks was easy after the
tough battle with Tavistock.
After winning the first game
by a score of 3-2 earlier, the
Irish wrapped things up with
a 2-1 Tuesday, a 5-0 romp
Thursday and Sunday's 5-3
decision.
The Lucan club now meets
Stayner in the all provincial
semi-finals. The first game
will be ' played in. Lucan
Friday night at 8:15 p.m.
with the return contest in
Stayner Monday night.
Officials of•the two teams
will get together befpre
Friday's game to flip a coin
to decide the location of the
third game in the bestof
seven series.
After giving up the first
goal of the game in Mitchell
Sunday the Irish came back
-strong to lead 2-1 after the
first period and were never
headed.
Steve Otto scored the first
goal for the Hawks at 1:14 of
the opening session. •
The Irish tied the score at
7:50 on a successful shot by
captain Paul Wraith on a
three-way effort with Doug
Latta and Steve Glenn.
At the 11:55 mark Jamie
Shipley converted a. pass

Rob Stovel scored the
Mitchell goal in the first
period and captain Paul
Wraith tied the score for the
Irish at the one minute mark
of the middle period with
Kevin Hartwick and Doug
Latta assisting.
Mohawks ousted
by Sherwoods
The Hensall Sherwoods
were able to eliminate the Ex-
eter Mohawks in the South
Huron hockey league semi-
finals Thursday night, but,
the outcome was in doubt
right to the final whistle.
The Sherwoods won the
sixth game by a close 10-9
score after the Mohawks had
rebounded to win the fourth
and fifth games of the series.
The Sherwoods jumped out
to a 3-1 lead at the end of the
first period Of play, but, the
Mohawks battled back to take
a 7-6 lead at one point late in
the second period.
The Mohawks opened the
scoring at 1.33 of the first
period as Tom Ryan con-
verted a pass from Jeff
Fuller. -
The Sherwoods took control
for the balance of the period
and cashed in on successful
shots by Allan Taylor, Greg
Campbell and Terry Bedard.
Assisting were Brian Maher,
Ken Varley, Lloyd Allan
Jamie, Caldwell and Dave
Kinsman.
The second period produc-
ed no less than 10 goals as
both clubs swept to the
offence.
Mike Clark led the Exeter
Peter Gill.
The second period Exeter
goals were counted by Pete
Gill on a play started by Dave
Jackson and Dan Bell and
Rick Moody on passes from
Mike Clark and captain Brad
Daters.
Rick Ingram scored three
of th four second period Hen-
sall goals with Jamie
Caldwell assisting on each of
the three and Terry Bedard
collected one assist.
Terry Caldwell registered
the other Hensall goal in the
second with Dave Kinsman
assisting. The period ended
with the teams even at seven
goals apiece.
The Sherwoods scored two
goals in one minute early in
the third period and went

finished off a passing com-
bination with captain Ken
Varley and Brian Maher.
The Mohawks got back in-
to contention at 7.31 as Luc
Gagnon hit the Hensall net on
a pass from Dave Jackson.
The Sherwoods regained
their two goal margin with a
little less than three minutes
to go on a goal by Ken Varley
with Brian Maher assisting.
The Mohawks got that one
back 40 seconds later as Dan
Bell blinked the goal light on
a pass from Mike Desjar-
dine, but, that's as close as
the Exeter team could come.
The Mohawks took only one
of the seven minor penalties
called by referees George
Tryon and Iry Ford.
