Although none of the
residents at the Maple
Woods apartments had a
birthday in February, a
Valentine party and chicken
dinner was held on Wed-
nesday, February 10.
Special guests for the
evening were Joe and Connie
Risi.
The party which was
hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Vic
Dinnin, concluded with
bingo.
Cards and choir
practise
The United Church choir
members and their families
enjoyed a, pot luck dinner
party at Maplewoods
Thursday.
Birthday congratulations
were extended to Urban
Pfile and Steven Geiger.
Noteworthy is the fact that
Urban has been singing in
the church choir for 60 years:
Following the delicious
dinner the choir held their
weekly practice, followed by
a few games of Uno and Lost
Heir.
Brownie Valentines
The .Brownies were busy
making Valentines to take
home to their moms last
Tuesday. Their weekly
meeting, concluded with a
fancy little lunch.
Guide Valentines
On Wednesday evening the
girl Guides also made lacey
Valentines for their parents
under the guidance of Tootle
Merner and Carmel Sweeney
in absence of Guide leader,
Sue Hartman.
Public speaking winners
Congratulations to winners
of the public speaking
contest held Wednesday
afternoon at St. Boniface
School.
Winners were: John
Farwell and Mary Ellen
VanAaken in the senior
division, (grades 7 and 8)
with Junior winners (grades
5 and 6) being: Rose Mary
Regier and Mary -Jo
Meidinger.
They will go on to compete
against those from Precious
Blood, Mt. Carmel and Ecole
St. Marie School on
February 22.

Emmanuel business meeting
The annual business
meeting of the Emmanuel
United Church in Zurich was
held. Sunday. It followed a
luncheon after the regular
morning service.
Seniors see Ice Capades
Ten senior citizens along
with those from Grand Bend,
Seaforth and Goderich went
by bus to the "Ice Capades"
in Kitchener on Sunday
(Valentine's Day).
On the way down they
stopped at Angie's Kitchen in
St. Agatha for a delicious
supper then arrived on' time
for the 6:30 evening per-
formance. It was really
enjoyed by all who went!
Holy bowler
The Holy Name Society
held their second annual
father and son bowling
tournament at the Town and
Country Lanes on Sunday,

Victor and Irene Hartman
returned home Sunday night
after a delightful two week
car trip (17 days) to Florida.
While there, they visited
with the Tatter's brother,
Wilfrid and Rena Girard in
Haines City and Zurich
friends; Gerald and Ursula
Regier who are spending the
winter in West Palm Beach.
They also visited Ross and
June Marshal, and reported
having nice warm weather
all the time there.

Day-glo softball
Eagles win
The Zurich Eagles team
were the victors in the
village's first snowball tour-
nament.
Using modified two -pitch
rules and softballs painted
day-glo orange, eight teams
squared off to play ball on
the unplowed ball diamond.
The day began at ten in the

morning with the Hosers
beating the Dominions 7-3.
The players quickly found
out that running in the snow
was difficult and the ball
would not bounce, but bury
itself in the deep snow.
Some players made it
safely to the bases and even
scored runs by crawling in
Zurich' snowball
the snow.
One-sided games were the
rule rather than the excep-
tion with the Generals drub-
bing a Traylor Ind. team 16-1
in the second game and
defeating the Hosers 16-2
later in the day.
In other first round games
the Eagles defeated the

Snow Ball team members quickly found out how difficult it was to move to catch
a ball, so many plays saw several teammates trying to cover a small area. Teams
from the Zurich area met Saturday to take part in the village's first snowball
tournament.
