meet Braves in playoffs,
The Lucan Irish scored two
victories in OHA Junior "D"
action and are getting ready
for the league playoffs.
Wednesday, the Irish edged
the Exeter Hawks 3-2 and Fri-
day they trounced the Thed-
ford Browns 8-3.
The Lucan club completed
the regular schedule with a
game m Mitchell last night,
Tuesday and will open a best -
of -seven series with Tavistock
Friday night. The second
game is in Lucan at 8:15 Tues -
da , February 23.

the Irish scored three times in
the first period and broke the
game wide open with four se-
cond period scores.
Dave Egan converted a
pass from John Medd for the
first Lucan goal at 3:16 and 27
seconds .later Dean Scott
registered on a three-way ef-
fort with Steve Thompson and
Art Gregory.
Steve Glenn made it 3-0 on
a pass from Dave Egan at
6:08 to complete the Lucan
first period scoring.
In the second 20 minutes of
play, John Medd fired two
successful shots. Passes were
provided by Dave Egan,
Steve Thompson, Randy
Turner and Goff Edwards.
The other two middle frame
scores came from the sticks
of Jamie Shipley from Kevin
Hartwick and captain Paul
Wraith on a three-way effort
with Keith Hartwick and
Jamie Shipley.
In the third period, John
Medd completed the Irish
scoring andhisown hat trick
on passes from Jeff Shipley
and Kevin Hartwick.
Scoring single goals for a
shorthanded Thedford team
were Steve McKenzie, Ken
Vanos and Ron Livingstone.

Three minor 'teams. battling for ,playoff lives
Three 01 Exeter's minor
hockey teams involved in
OMHA playoffs will be
fighting for their lives when
they take to the ice this
week. The fourth has been
eliminated.
The pee woes were ousted
in three straight by St.
Marys, all verdicts being by
decisive scores.
The midgets are even with
St. Marys at two games each

Buckeyes got
9-5 victory
Five unanswered goals in
the third period carried the
Zurich Buckeyes to a 9-5
victory over the Exeter
Mohawks in South Huron
hockey league play at the
South Huron Rec Centre,
Thursday night.
The Buckeyes got away to
a quick lead with three goals
in the first period. -The
Mohawks rebounded for two
scores late in the first
session and then outscored
their opposition three goals
to one in the middle frame
before .the Zurich onslaught
started in the final session.
Pat Bedard started the
Buckeyes away with two
goals in 14 seconds just past
the four minute mark. Mike
Clarke and Gerald Weido
assisted on the first and
Steve Bedour provided the
pass for the second.
Jeff O'Brien converted a
pass from Gerald Weido to
shoot the Buckeyes ahead 3-0
at 6,21.
Mike Clark was the first to
find the Zurich net at 16.48 as
he scored on an unassisted
effort.
Luc Gagnon notched the
second Exeter goal a minute
later as he completed a
three-way passing com-
bination with Doug Fletcher
and Mike Clark. In the
second period Dave Jackson
tied the score for the
Mohawks on passes from
Doug Fletcher and Dan Bell
and Mike Anstett put his club
ahead on a pass from captain
Brad Daters.
Before the second period
was concluded Greg Kirk
scored for Zurich on a solo
dash and Pete 'Gill replied
for the Mohawks with Doug
Fletcher getting the assist.
Five different players
shared in the Zurich scoring
in the third period. The
period was only 40 seconds
old when Steve Bedour
converted a pass from Mike
Clarke to tie the score at 5-5.
Clarke scored what proved
to be the winner at 5.25 on an
unassisted effort. Greg Kirk,
Jeff O'Brien nd Ron Rader
chalked up the other Zurich
goals with Gerald Wiedo
getting two assists • while
Steve Bedour, Ron Rader
and Marvin Merner each
helped on one score.
Referees Tom Hodgins and
Brian Campbell assessed
only five minor penalties and
none had any effect on the
scoring.

entering a poster contest
about Fire Safety In The
Home. They will be sent to
the Crediton Fire Depart-
ment. The winners of this
contest will be sent to
Toronto for further judging.

room 5. He hands the new
testament out. He hands
them out because he, wants
children to learn more about

week the board office in
Clinton' sent us a computor
that we can play with until
the end of the week. Some of
the games that we can play
are "Android Nim", Dam
Busters and Word Scramble.
Each class has had a chance
to use it. When Iwe teat our

The girls in grades 4-6 are
on a team of King's Court.
There are four teams. The
winning team was team 1,
second was team 4, third
team 3, then team 2. King's
Court is a very fun game to

are trailing Forest by a 2-0
count in the besl-of-seven
zone playoff.
The bantams averted
elimination when they eked
out a 3-2 win at the rec
centre, Wednesday, and trail
St. Marys by a ?-1 margin.

bantam attack with two
goals.
The midgets lost a 3-1
verdict to St. Marys, Wed-
nesday,'
ed=nesday,' as they failed to
capitalize on 14 penalties to

burn scored the lone Exeter
goal after St. Marys had
taken a 3-0 lead. Mike
Tiedeman drew the assist.
The bantams and mtdgets
will travel to St. Marys
tonight (Wednesday) for the
fifth games in their playoff
series, with the bantams
again having to win to avoid
elimination.
The sixth game in, the
playoff set for the midgets
will be back in Exeter on
Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Atoms nipped
The atoms were nipped 2-1
in their series opener,
Wednesday at home and then
dropped . a 4-2 decision in
Forest on Friday. They play
the fourth game in Exeter
tonight and are here for the
fifth, if necessary, on
Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
Rob McLelland scored the
' lone Exeter tally in the first
game on a play with Mark
Burton after Forest had
opened a 2.4 lead. However,
the locals couldn't get the
equalizer.
In Forest, Exeter jumped
into a 2-0 lead, but couldn't
hold on as the home crew
came back with four straight
to seal the win.
David O'Connor and David
Dalrymple scored for Exeter
with assists to David
Josephson and Tom Rolph.
In Clinton, Saturday, the
atoms were nipped 5-3 in a

to lead the Exeter Mohawks
to a decisive 7-3 victory over
the Centralia Marauders in a
regular South Huron in-
termediate league game
Friday night at the Stephen
township arena.
The Mohawks scored the
only. two goals of the first
period, outscored their
opposition three goals to two
in the middle frame and
counted two of the three
third period scores.
Captain Brad Daters
scored the two first period
goals for the Mohawks on
plays set up by Mike Clark
and Dan Stanlake.
The Marauders tied the
score early in the middle
frame on successful shots by
Rob Funston and Rich
Lather with assists going to
Bill Hodge, Mark Cronyn
and Cee Nickles.
In the last 13 minutes of the
middle session, the Mohawks
scored three times to take a
comfortable lead.
Luc Gagnon counted at
6.33 on a three-way effort
with Jeff Fuller and Mike
Clark and then provided the
pass for a successful shot by
Clark only a minute later.
